Funny we should be talking about B.A.S...
Funny we should be talking about B.A.S...
So yesterday, I ordered 11 subs for my daughter's birthday and when I got there to pick them up, they hadn't even started to make them. So I wandered next door to the "Bookmart" 2nd hand store and found this 1959 edition of "The Leica Way" for 2$ to read while I waited.
(pictured with my 1959 Zorki 4 - closest thing I have to a Leica)
Hey did you know that with a real Leica screw mount camera, you could do double exposures by holding down the release while turning the shutter speed dial to wind the shutter only? Full of information, including how the shutters actually work, the construction of the rangefinders, both screw mount and M-series.

Peter, the lens is really of great condition. I got it from a ebay seller who said that is an unused lens.

Hi Keven,
Nice looking J8. I have never seen one in the flesh and have been wondering if the numerals on the aperture ring and distance scale are engraved or just painted on. I know that the front ring turns as you focus, but that seems of little consequence.
Take some shots with it and let us see them --

Paul some of the black ones have one set of numbers engraved and the other painted.
I think all of the older ones (i.e. silver) were completely engraved. At least mine is. The numbers on Keven's aperture ring look like they're painted to me, but I can't tell with the white DOF f stops, they could be engraved.
I believe the newer lenses are painted rather than engraved.

Hi! Paul, Peter,
Yes, mine has the serial number engraved and the aperture scale painted.

And because the front ring turns as focusing, a round hood would be a better choice. Luckily I got one locally.

The rotating front and the silkscreened numbers is why the older silver Jupiters are more desirable. That being said, you can still usually find one on eBay for 25$, with a nice Zorki 4 attached to the rear.

So much of a good thing...
My Bessa R with a Serenar 50/1.8 and square Series VI hood, and a vanilla macchiatto whipped up by my friend and coffee geek Robin, on my current trip to Rossland, BC, to ride the famous Kootney power (40cms of fresh untracked pow pow this morning!)

Would Kootney power = Kootenai powder, i.e. snow, maybe at Red Mountain?
Snap any other pics? Enjoy the outing?

peter_n said:Yes I do like that one! Very nice!! I think that may be the first M7 in this thread. What's the lens?
The 50mm Summicron (f/2).
The Leica is definitely a pleasure to use... I dropped off the first roll I shot with it
yesterday, and am hoping that I got a few good shots on it
