P.S. How does one use the thumbnail feature to save time and space for viewers?? I can't seem to figure it out.
 
The latest Japanese member of my photographic household. Unfortunately I have done something odd to the shutter speed setting while the front lens ring which was loose. Worked OK unitil I monkeyed with it. I will be getting back to that little job later this week.

Other than that it has a nice clean viewfinder now, after some work last sunday, after my coffee.

Pherdinand, Those are my favorite coffe cups. One of those filled with a good French roast and I am ready for the day. Sometimes two, but then I can't get a well focused imageat anything lower 1/125 of a second ;)

This is a Mamiya Super 23 that has had it's rangefinder removed. Last fall, before all this madness with FSU rangefinders, I picked up a 65mm lens (28mm equivalent) and turned the Super 23 into a street camera. With all the modifications I made to this body, I called it the Frankencamera. I wrote about it here. Then the Zorki and the FED 2 arrived and the Frankencamera was neglected.

Last night I was possesed by the spirit of Dr. Erich Salomon (and here) with his Ermanox. He was the original candid photographer and his Ermanox predates the Leica although the Leica quickly replaced the Ermanox for this kind of photography. I've loved the picture of Dr. Salomon with his Ermanox held at waist level, with no viewfinder, and his free hand holding a cable release, for some time. The Mamiya 65mm is slower (f6.3) than the Ermanox but my film is faster. In the spirit of the Ermanox I removed the hand grip and viewfinder and put on a cable release. With a lens this wide I can just point the camera. I removed the Pilot I had on the Frankencamera originally and added the little Sekonic. I will be shooting it tonight.

And that little piece of paper is the new rangefinder.

Argus C-44 and Friend

A bit of Glasnost and coffee-

The Argus C-44 is all cleaned up and ready to go on it's maiden voyage to the Wild Animal Park. You can see it here along with my poor FED2 (capping shutter, next project after I fix the QL17) and a leningrad light meter.

The "reeking bag" that came with the Argus can be seen in the background.

I have loaded it up with Kodak Gold 100 ASA. Results later.

One last note- the lens is not nearly as hard to remove and replace as many elsewhere have noted. The lens mount is truly over engineered.

Two beautiful cameras, Bob, and very nice pictures of both. Your bag immediately caught my eye; is Reeking the brand? It is quite handsome -- enjoy your shoot!!!

I'm sorry... reeking should read wreaking- as in stinky! I have been trying to get rid of the overpowering stale cigarette smell that came with it.

I left it out on my patio today to let the sun help out. Seems to be working. It will be a great camera bag when it is ready.
 
Well, Lesson 1 with the Argus-
lift the film advance knob so that you can rewind not the rewind knob.

I tore the film on the cassette side. We will just have to go back. There is always an up side.

Actually, you were right the first time, as in, "It reeks of smoke!" Reminds me of my late, former mother-in-law's house. She smoked so much that the tar dripped down from the top edges of the walls. When they went to paint, they could not entirely clean it off and had to seal it with Kilz before they could paint again.

Bob, Bob, Bob.....the correct term is "reeking" if it refers to foul odor. as in "That garbage can reeks of dead meat."
