I've always been a 50mm shooter. The Jupiter 12 is my first 35mm lens and I'm liking the results. I've been using a KMZ Universal Finder and finally decided on a dedicated 35mm finder to make the camera a little smaller and a better street shooter. I found this finder on eBay. I've never heard of Swallow finders before. It's like looking through a picture window! There is a lever for parallax control. And the coffee is the official Whidbey Island street shooter coffee -- Whidbey Coffee Organic Espresso.

I hadn't heard of Swallow finders either, but it looks pretty decent! Certainly not a cramped view..

I've been thinking about getting a folder. Then I remembered I had one in the sock drawer. My dad gave it to me about 25 years ago and I never used it. It probably hasn't had film in it for 40 years. I put a roll of 120 Plus-X in it and went to the zoo. It's 6x9 format, so there were only 8 frames. Actually 7 since I forgot to wind ahead after the first shot! It was fun to get anything out of it. Two shots in broad daylight came out pretty good. Here's one attached. The camera says Kodak Ball Bearing Shutter, No. 2 Folding Cartridge Premo. It's got two shutter speeds, 1/25 and 1/50. Oh and B or T (bulb or timed?). As for f-stops, you can have anything you want so long as it's 1 through 4. I guesstimated that 4 was like f/16. Great fun 😛

Here I am, packing for my trip to Spain + Latvia. This day felt so far away in the beginning of summer but now its here and Im leaving on Wednesday! I was planning on taking a Bessa R with the lenses shown but there was a problem (the one I got had crooked framelines). Glad I have my trusty zorki! I have gotten a lot of good results from the zorki, so I trust it, and my time in rangefinder land has made me quite good at guessing exposure (and I have learned to always overexpose negative film when in doupt).
One problem I will have to overcome is not having a accurate way of framing the 90 elmar (it was bought for the bessa) but I will use the rangefinder on the zorki to frame (more like center) shots when I feel like using the lens. Ill probably stick with the 50 and the 35 for most of the time anyway.
Going to visit grandparents in Latvia first and then stopping in Madrid on the way back to stay with my sister for a bit. It will be fun.

Wow, that sounds like a really interesting trip! Hope you have fun and bring back lots of Zorki pics for us to admire!

This has required a four month wait for Shintaro to do his thing. It has also been funded exclusively by junk from my loft. So you're looking at a camera and lens that has cost me a Hornby train set, old Art Deco Trolley, jukebox tubes , vintage Levi's, plus Bakelite boxes, Springsteen CDs, Beatles Box Sets plus a VC 25/4.

That looks very similar to the Kodak No. 1 Pocket Camera I picked up for $10 at the flea market a couple of years ago. I haven't taken the time to clean it up, but I think once I do it'll work just fine. Takes 120, so I should be good to go with it. Got to figure out how to open it up first, however... 😉

I have a No1 Autographic, but it should be the same. There's a sliding lock on the front. Once it's unlocked, you can either pry it open with your fingers, or unfolded the lense, and level it out, locking side first. Let me know if you're still have trouble.

So on the way home from the airport, I’m trolling through an Antique/Junk store that I just happened on. I don’t have to go home right now. My wife’s on a plane and the house is empty. Why rush home. I’ve got a good coffee, a camera and several hours to kill. I’ll browse the store and maybe head downtown for some pics of people going to and fro.
Ahhhh, there’s another Brownie… and an Argus over there. Is that three I’ve seen today? Hey, look here! A rather nice looking, though well used bag; just about the right size for a Zorki and maybe a lens or two. It’s got a front pocket for film, etc., the strap and buckle are in good shape. How much?

What’s this? A small camera case … nope … a small camera! What? What did the tag say? Oh, “Camera AND Case - $12.50” Okay, I’m really starting to like the case now… and I can tell this little varmint needs a good home anyway.
After business was finished, I sat down on a bench outside the front door of this fine establishment, sipped the remainder of my coffee and emptied everything out of the bag. “Kodak Flash Bantam.” Not too bad at all. What else we got? There’s the camera, camera case, a Kodak Series V Filter Adapter w/lens hood – HEALTHY lens hood – and an assortment of six filters --- and a lock for the bag --- and both keys.

When I unsnapped the camera case in the store, one of the snaps had given way, so once outside, I carefully unsnapped all and took the little camera out. Obviously the case hadn’t been opened in awhile and moisture had deteriorated all the snaps. But, the case had done it’s job to protect the Bantam. It looks in fine shape with nothing more than the normal rub marks and signs of use.
“Normal signs of use.” I picked up the lock and keys and twiddled them around in my fingers. From the looks of the worn bag and camera case and all the attachments, this wasn’t just some camera that was purchased, taken on vacation once and then banished to the closet. Fifty or so years ago, this was some guy’s shooter, I imagined; somebody that liked taking pictures and knew enough about the photography of the day to know the use of filters, hoods, etc. Probably a Working Joe, not a rich kid. Flash Bantams went for about fifty bucks, but it functioned well enough for him get pics of the family and maybe be a little creative once in awhile… and enjoy photography.
I wondered about the guy who cared enough about his gear to keep everything together, clean and in it’s place --- and valued it enough to put a lock on the bag. Think I'll go use up some film.
