Two very nice cameras and shots (congratulations on the new one, Wim). Ywenz: Guinness and tea? Together? Hmmm...

What is that? A Shanghai?
It's a Yasuhara T981. Japanese design, but built in China, by Phenix (is that the name of the manufacturer or only a brand?). It comes with a Yasuhara f/2,8 50mm lens. Yasuhara was 'the smallest cameramaker in the world', before closing down. They sold about 4000 of these since 1998. The remainder is now being sold by the lomographic society.

ywenz: Spooky. That Thinkpad looks my T42. I can make the tea and have Guiness, so ship the Leica and HDTV to me, and I won't feel so disoriented.
Nice pics!

I don't see why you can't mount an Orion-15 on this camera. I have an Orion-15, which is the Russian/Ukrainian 28mm LTM lens. It doesn't protrude into the film chamber anymore than the CV 28mm lenses do. I have not found a LTM camera that cannot mount my Orion-15. Now I fully understand why the Jupiter-12 wouldn't fit, with its big rear end.

Nice camera, but just curious I've read somewhere that the T981 [I presume this is the LTM model not the fixed lens version] had a design flaw in the shutter which causes light leaks. Was it ever resolved, particularly in your unit?

I just tried it again. The Orion-15 protrudes 4-5 mm into the camera. When mounting the lens, I felt some resistance after a few turns. The last time I concluded that I must have hit something in the camera, but it probably was an irregularity in the screwthread. With very little effort it mounted allright this time. I stand corrected.

The T981 has a single shutter. In the SLR for which it was designed, this shutter is protected by the mirror. In the Bessas this problem is solved by adding a second curtain. I don't know how much of this 'problem' is reality and how much is hype. It is recommended to keep the lens cap on the camera when not taking pictures. The camera is now loaded with Ilford 3200 asa film. If there really are light leaks, I'll soon find out.

This is my new hiking companion, a camera that lots of people love to hate. It may not have a rangefinder, but at least it's got a meter.

NICE IIIc and summitar Frank, you did the right thing there,
Looks as if you've got a filter on the lens ?
lens hood is good for shooting but out of period,- should be square and folding, but some think they're a bit clumsy, good quirky period piece though. If you find one they actually say summitar on them.
