Camera and Coffee

We've had it for about a year. It's a great piece of machinery, though it takes slightly more frequent maintenance (or, rather, it's harder to avoid normal maintenance routines). The copper coiled pipe heating element requires a more specialized descaler (can't use vinegar), and I've noticed that it needs descaled more often. Not a big deal, really.

The question is whether the plate is shown to, uhm, scale ...

A new Sony! Radio that is: ICF-506 is an example of how Sony designers do "retro" though a modernist lens. I think most folk who have used a portable radio made since the 1950s would have no problems operating it. But under the hood, it's pure 21st century technology incorporating digital signal processing and zero alignment points, and nary a dial cord in sight.

Sony camera miniatures exist, but AFAIK, they were offered only in Japan as part of a promotion, and when they turn up on eBay, they generally sell for more $$ than I'm willing to pay.

It's my first time trying green tea with salted sakura blossoms: Pretty good, not overly salty, just enough to emphasize the tea's natural umami.

How could I resist a confection with a name like "Fuzzy Rock"? I think Korea must be the world's #1 producer of Xylitol. That's what these are: Xylitol crystals, with a hint of mint. Dunno that I would go out of my way to buy it again though.

Good sunny Monday morning - supposedly we’re now in spring but the snow doesn’t yet realize it. Ah well hopefully things will soon change for the better and more temperate.

I made the last pot with our coffee from Costa Rica this morning. Bit of a sad moment but I guess that means that the next time we go back down we’ll just have to bring more of that delicious coffee back. It’s in the same mug as last time, which is a vintage matte green Denby Camelot in the chevron motif. We got rid of a number of miscellaneous cups last year and these are what we now use daily. They belonged to my parents who bought them new in the late 1960s.

Accompanying this final cup of Costa Rica is an RB67 Pro-S that I’ve been attempting to sell. I had my local camera repair guru replace all the seals in the body and two backs, plus he serviced the 90mm lens and a 180mm lens. Haven’t had any takers yet, which both surprises and disappoints me. So at the moment I can’t think of anything better to do with it than put it to worthwhile use. BTW I have to say that if you’re at all hesitant to carry a camera of this size for handheld shooting (and you certainly can use it handheld), get yourself an Op/Tech harness (just not the stretchy kind!). It definitely makes it much much easier to carry around something like a RB plus no neck pain.

Right now the coffee is looking at me with eyes of neglect, so I better focus my attention on the important task at hand…
