Waiting on Maitani
If you haven't already, and can bring yourself to do it ... Nokians are nice snow tires/tyres.
Look forward to the pics ... I'm sure they will be better than mine.

Playing with one's M2 all night is somehow irresistible, isn't it. Oh and I wouldn't worry about a J9 on a Contax, weren't they designed from Zeiss drawings in the first place?

Now you have an M2. What is your first impression?
Do you feel the difference?

Yes I feel a better photographer
I don't want to say anything serious about this before I shoot at least 1-2 rolls with the M2. And before i see the results of course.
What i can say from the "dry-shooting" so far is, that the VF is indeed big and brighter than any rangefinders I handled and the RF patch is very contrasty and useable in dim light - yashica electros, Hi-matics, Canonets do not come close; and the Contax IIa is, although easy to focus, much more squinty and, of course, without framelines.
However, the myth of the Silent Leica Shutter is busted
It is not more silent than the contax IIa (just makes different sound but at least as loud) and it does not come even close to the silence of a leaf shutter. Might be a bit of a sample to sample variation, of course. But I don't see this as a problem.
I also like that it is very well built and without sloppiness in the moving parts. It's at least as well put together as the Contax IIa.
The grip of the camera is definitely different than what I'm used to, somehow feels small in my hands although the camera body looks rather large. And heavy! It's a very heavy beast, even with a small collapsible lens.
I'll have to figure out the best way to hold it and focus it.

I can understand you. I do not have one but I'm planning to buy just because the unique and heavy and mechanism inside the great look of the camera and first of all and naturally the pictures I can shoot with it.

Frank: How well does the CV viewfinder work on the Kiev?

Hi Captain, it works very well indeed. There is room in the shoe for the finder to slide a bit further forward than would be ideal for effortless viewing, but it's not a problem. The 50mm external viewfinder is the ideal accesory for all those decent cameras with squinty built in viewfinders (Contax included.)

Will you trust me when I say there was a cup of coffee on this table, but it didn't make the final edit?
I added the M3 wind lever to my departed M6TTL because I like the way it feels, but it still isn't half as sexy as an M3. I'd say those Contax IIa's come a real close second, though.

That M3 wind lever IS a nice change to the M6. Very pretty, Kevin!

I have a light meter just like the one in this pic. Can anyone tell me a way to make sure it is working correctly without taking a roll of film.
UPDATE
I did use sunny 16 before and use that method with most of my cameras but I know that film today with its latitude my calculations can be off a little and still correctly exposed.
I have tested against a meter in digital camera and it is off from it.
