Hi all, new to Leica, just purchase my first one, a III with summar. I need to get a case for it and Luigi's offerings are quite high. Any ideas? I dont care if it is brand new. Thanks for the help.

I use an ER case from a Zorki 1 , good n cheap and fits my Leica III like a glove.

The bottom half of a Zorki 1 case will be fine. You'll almost certainly have to figure out a way to attach a strap, though.

the Zorki 1 ER case comes with a neck strap attached to the case.
the whole case can be used for the Leica III with a collapsable 50mm lens just like the original Leitz ER case made for this Leica camera.
no problem.
the Zorki 1 ER case will fit the early Leicas up to the Leica IIIb.

xayraa33, the difficulty is that Zorki 1 cases are old, and in nearly all of them the straps have become detached. Yuri of fedka.com, who is the source of my information, sent me one.

I have two Zorki 1 cases with original neck straps in good condition.
I have also attached a nylon webbing strap to a Zorki 1 case that was missing the neck strap.
just two cuts on each side of the case to pass each end of the webbing through and sew the strap ends to itself with dental floss.
makes a very strong non rotting neck strap.

The original Leica cases are out there, although many are in shoddy shape. Not expensive. You need the medium nose one for the Summar.

I'm trying to figure out how to attach a nylon strap to a case bottom, and this sounds like a good idea. I doubt that I can somehow use the leather tabs riveted to either side.

you can use the leather tabs riveted to the sides provided that the leather tabs are not weak rotted leather like the whole neck strap originally was.
Just insert a key ring through each tab to attach a new leather or nylon strap.
my two horizontal cuts method on the side of the case provides a more secure method to mount a new strap, as outlined in my previous posting.
