I think the close focus on my J8 and new (to me) J9 seem OK 🙂

Both taken at f/2 focussing as close as the lens/rf allowed, on expired Fuji Sensia100 (handheld so not a scientific test, but lets me know I'm in the ballpark)

Spot on. You are lucky 🙂 These are great lenses when they work as father Zeiss intended 🙂

May I ask what serial# your J9 has ?

(And thanks for the nice bokeh shot in the other thread).

Roland.

Certainly, N7402xxx Black LTM. I got it from the Real Camera Shop in Manchester, UK last month with my Bessa R2. The focussing's a bit stiff, but not stiff enough to unscrew the lens unless the temp is below freezing. I've re-greased J8s and I61s before but J9s look a tad more complex with their double-helix - I'd need the house to myself for a while and a good night's sleep before tackling that 🙂
I'm relieved that it focuses well close-up, there's many a tale of bodged FSU repairs on the web 😱

Cheers, Roland

closest focus + widest aperture = the hardest and true test for any lens.

For clinching evidence, you could do shots from a tripod or on a table top. A lucky man if you got a good J-9. They are reputed to be very difficult to reassemble correctly.
