CV 21/4 vs. 25/4

Kyle have you done the deed?
Yup! I got a chrome NOS 25/4, a chrome Bessa L, and a Bessa half case... all for under $270 shipped from Photo Village 😀

Aside from the 21/4 being too wide for my taste, the lens seems prone to flare and ghosting. With my SLR I can see the flare as well as if my vertical lines near the edge of the frame are indeed vertical. I have never used the 25/4 and am wondering if it handles flare any better. Thanks, Jim

Got my 25/4, Bessa L, and CV half case from PhotoVillage today. The half case turned out to be a full case (the top removes), which was a nice surprise, especially since the case was only $1 with a camera body. The lens is very compact and it fits well with the L. I'm probably going to a hot rod show this weekend, so I'll give it some good exercise then.

Just wanted to add that PV was great to work with. They are very friendly on the phone (I was seriously a bit worried to call them for my order after dealing with the rudeness of salesmen at other NY shops like Adorama), and my order arrived very quickly. Plus I got an awesome deal!

Sockeyed, I've got to complement you on your flickr gallery. That's a pretty nice body of work. You have sought out the strong points of the 25/4 and utilized them to the full advantage. Nice work. I'm envious. (Is there a way on this site I can check my spelling?)

Oh ya, I have a shot in my gallery of a youngster playing badmitten that reminds me of your avitar. The kid has the stance down pat. Check it out.

I found the used CV 25/4 I've been hunting. It's a black one and I have a silver R. My 21/4 was black also and it didn't look so bad on my R. I got a fantastic deal if you ask me. The black CV 25/4 w/ bright line finder and the square hood shipped to Alaska for $200.00. I'm thrilled about it. I'll post photos ASAP. Might even start me a flickr page.

Man, that IS a great deal. 😀 Kudos to you for searching so diligently. Can't wait to see your photos.

I'm still shooting the first roll through my L & 25/4. If I get any keepers out of the test roll I'll share them here.

Hi I have the 25mm/4 CV and a 21mm super angulon. If I had to keep one it would be the SA, as 35mm is my main focal length and 25mm is closer to that. Having said that, I love the 25mm CV and plan to keep it! It is true that it often doesn't give that "very wide" look, and can pass for a 35mm look. I find it a little too contrasty for my taste. The SA is less contrasty, and doesn't suffer from the "fat man distortion" / "football-shaped head syndrome" as much as many other superwides. A great lens, alas, quite expensive. I got mine cheaply (around 600 bucks with original finder), but it was badly fogged. Sherry Krauter cleaned it for 150 bucks and it's as good as new!

25mm + 40/50mm = good two lens combo

21mm + 35mm = good two lens combo

in my opinion...
