Dual Wield Merrills?

Since I use a omd w/ mf lens for all my tele work... I'll do some investigation about the sd 1 Merrill.

Since I don't like to change lenses in the field unless I have too... Having two bodies is normal for me. Once I decided I liked the dp2m never really thought twice about getting the dp1m.

i'm more of a tripod guy myself although with the dp2m when i thought it would be absolutely necessary all the time, i've gotten nice results without it. promising for using a dp1m. many i'm really tempted to get both.

It´s the EF-140DG, it´s great, it has ttl capability which works fine, it never burns my pics and it´s small.

with the flash i'm debating whether the 140 is enough seeing that it doesn't bounce, the 610 seems overkill but i'd definitely like bounce and TTL capability. i'd primarily use it either for fill or low light group photos.
 
i wonder if Sigma's plan all along was to make the merrill compacts like gateway drugs to lure us into buying the SD1M. people complain about not having an interchangeable lens Merrill when one exists already ... it's just mirrorred and has an optical viewfinder and yet people complain ;)
but the cost of 3 DP cameras would be about the same as a SD1M and zoom lens ... or adapters could be used as well for longer focal lengths

So I have been investigating the sd1m. They have some fast lenses.. 28f1.8, 30f1.4, 50f1.4, etc. for the sd1m. That 2 stops faster then the f2.8 lenses on the dp Merrill's. have u investigated any of these lenses? How the battery life on the sd1m?

I like the dust cover can be removed and when in place acts as the ir filter..it is mentioned in paragraph 6 on this sd1m review

Slight difference in price there mate! :)

And then there's the lenses ... not that I haven't thought of this option myself! :p
 
Well just a bit poorer :( but a 1.4 lens is soo tempting... :p. at least there is a rebate going on until June 30th on the body and lenses.

I was going to spend 450 to get an ir conversion done on one of my cameras anyway.. So if this ir filter trick really works (two things off my list at same time).

Reading the review at dpreview of the SD1M is hard work because you half know what to expect if you've used a DPM but you cant help thinking about that incredible image quality combined with a set of lenses that give you an extra two stops of speed not to mention far better control of OOF areas.

It really is the ultimate carrot for any foveon fan! :)

Yep.. They all tend to be hard reading.. They seem to be protecting them else from all the negative comments about what the camera cannot do.. Like the one about NO video... I go who cares, u want video buy a different camera..

If I buy a sd1m, I am still going to post to the foveon thread.. Why worry about it.

I find the negative opinion of the Sigma SD1M very odd, maybe when the price was very high, it was justifiable, but now, I just don't get it. Sure it doesn't have video, but it doesn't have a coffee grinder either, it's a stills camera, what's so strange about that?

It's like moaning the Monochrom doesn't do color, that's not what it's for.

Having looked at the way you use your cameras, Gary, I'd think the SD1 Merrill would make good sense for you (perhaps provided it can do IR).

In my case, the size factor of the DP series trumps all else. Live view is also a big plus.
