My spouse would also like to see Praha (although she is not that much interested in photography, and we have a little daughter) - does anybody plan to go with family?

I'm pretty keen on coming actually, partly because my girlfriend has been talking about wanting to visit Prague quite a bit lately.

I have a weird question (perhaps). I have a friend that is really into photography as well, but he is not a member here and he doesn't use a rangefinder. Is he still welcome if he's up for it?

Kenny, of course he is! He might want to bring a camera of some sort though, as Prague is quite photogenic. It's not like the secret handshake and the retinal-scan systems will allow him in to the high-security Euromeet-world-takeover meeting anyway 😉

The badge has an interesting choice of background indeed, is there also an alternative with an attractive male chest (I'm told the James Bond actor would be appropriate) for the female members who will be in attendance?!

Oh yeah definitely, I'd ask him to come for the photography specifically, he just doesn't shoot with a rangefinder, but he shoots with dslr and an x100 so at least he can pose as a rangefinder-shooter with the fuji. 😉

I also hope not. With any luck the female RFF visitors to Prague have become inured to males 'humour' over the years.

I initially used the wrong address when trying to contact Foma, so that will be rectified later today.

The past Euromeets have looked at the traditionally 'touristy' places and also the unexpected-but-interesting areas of the cities visited. Our general plan has been to meet on the Saturday and Sunday mornings in agreed locations and I think a group has also met for a meal on Saturday evening. Most likely a part of the group will be in the city before and/or after the weekend, so there may be more arrangements of locations involving a little more travel time.

I am still internetting around for interesting possibilities but will have more time after the end of this week (a bit of work pressure, my apologies).

What would be the number one thing that says "Prague", for those who live there or have previously visited the city? Perhaps everyone would say the castle, in which case maybe we should think more photographically as well as historically! Is there a photo/art/cultural centre or area?

Hmmm, more Googling required and talking of Google, I'll set up a map for people to stick pins in with points of interest.

Just about nine weeks to go - time to think about booking transport and accommodation 🙂

So, I made a Google map eventually. If I chose the right settings then anyone with the link to the page should be able to edit it.

Most of the locations I marked are around Prague 1, just to the South of the river and near the old city, plus the Castle to the North of course. I'm sure there are other interesting areas - any comments from our Czech friends?

At this stage, main questions are what to do (during walks/trips on each of Saturday and Sunday), how to get there (train, air-travel etc.) and where to stay.

An itinerary for the weekend will most likely be based on whatever choices are made about what is "interesting", so this is up for discussion. Does anyone have any must-see areas in mind? Put them on the map with a post in this thread and we can make some decisions 🙂

For places to stay, most will probably look at the huge number of hostels and small hotels, plus at least one campsite. There is also the possibility of a (sub-)group hiring a holiday-apartment, as was done in Istanbul last year. It is a very flexible city for accommodation, which is one of the reasons that we chose it of course.

BeFoto you marked on the map is in my neighbourhood. Owner is great guy and the prices are good from film to digital. I would recommend though to order any film related material in advance. It is a real shop at first place.

question for you fellow inhabitants of Prague .. how much is a taxi per km (ca.)? I'm arriving at the Central Station (Hlavní nádraží) and I try to evaluate how much away from it I can justify to go to get a cheaper hotel room.

Hlavni nadrazi is also metro station. If you dont have enough money for the hotel room why spend it on the taxi? 😉

I'm coming earlier with my g/f .. means lot of baggage I have to pull thru the city. If I'd be alone I wouldn't give a f@€$


what about the other folks .. has anyone already booked a place? so I might try to stay within a neighborhood where the actual meet takes place. I'm guessing that will be somewhere in the districts with lower numbers.

That is the peril of coming by train - no weight check on the baggage! One shoulder bag and a suitcase-with-wheels should be enough per person?

I am also assuming the areas near the centre and by the river will be the main targets on both days, but there may well be some good suggestions for further out of the centre - there are excellent public transport links to move around so that is not really a problem I think.

I'll arrive friday afternoon and will leave monday afternoon. That's three nights. Should be doable with hand luggage only. Booked a flight. The idea of sleeping in a 1,90m long bed in the train while I'm 1,91m tall was not thrilling.
