Philippines Filipino RF users!!!

it was really a blast! thanks jay for hosting.

annie, we still have yet to talk about the exhibit. everyone that night was i believe, overwhelmed, by the fact that we had a good turn out and all those rangefinder cams!!!! (this does not even include jay's yet).

we were just having fun exchanging notes and stories...too much fun to even get everyone's names...hehehehe.

eddie, apa ongpin dropped by a few minutes after you left. he brought 3 cams and tested the lenses on jay's RD-1.

great meeting you all guys! :D

kelan kaya sunod? :p

ditoy won in the filmfest for best sound recording! kudos, ditoy! that's a very good reason for a follow-up get-together.

it would have been a pleasure to meet apa ongpin also. but we finished all our obligations at 3 am attending 4 parties in one evening! never again! getting too old for this.

The turnout was good. In contrast to the other eb's we had before, this one was the best. Perhaps because everyone present was an RF fan? BTW, four who came are not in this list (yet). Allen, Jay N., and Timmy are from the toykamera group, and Uro (he directs TV shows for GMA) is a true-blue camera collector and RF shooter. Marami pang interesting people ang hindi nakapunta, I could think of about five more.

Marami pa rin traditionalists dito. Too bad that we have to link with each other (kundi sa RFF, hindi tayo magkakakilala) in an expatriate site. Our local sites are too high-tech oriented.

I'm amazed something that isn't plugged to an outlet could play recorded music.
Kat: parang film cam din? Many are quite amazed to see anyone shooting on film, even more so with an ancient RF (SLR or TLR or whatever oldie) which doesn't have AF, AE, or even runs on batteries :D

Wow! Star-studded event pa pala! :D

It's funny that you have all those cameras in front of you and yet there's no group picture. You must be kidding, right? Not even stolen shots? :p Well, talaga ngang nag-enjoy ang mga attendees in socializing so much, that, they forgot to take pictures. :D

BTW, Congrats Ditoy!

Sana those other attendees get to join us here for chit-chat some time...:)

Since you guys have met na, let me introduce myself through this. (Of all forums, sa fellow RF users ko pa hindi na-share agad...stupid me!)

Hi Guys,

I'm new at this camera group thing but I Really enjoyed the EB at Jay's Valhalla (tnx for inviting me Jay) it gave me flashbacks of the feeling of the Amateur Radio Eyeballs....very warm and full of Home-brewing, and hacking. Thanks to Jay coz i'm now a certified Russky believer...And Ditoy... it was fate meeting you and your M4-2. You wouldn't believe it but I've been sleeping and cuddling up to the Leica round the clock ever since. It's a ritual I gp through with all of my new cameras to get to know them .Buti na lang my wife has just been converted a while back when I gave her a point and shoot. Now she understands.
There are some bugs but it's all worth it. I hope that we all meet again and next time take souvenir pics;)

Pareho na lang tayong na-iinggit, Annie.

Looks like you all had fun. Sayang, ang lapit pa naman sana sa akin kung nandiyan ako.

Happy New Year!

Luis, welcome. I liked your galleries, especially the clip "Aftermath..." Thanks.

Happy New Year din, Ray! Maybe sometime we'll meet them in Pinas, eh? :)

Luis, great pics in your blog! I also watched "Aftermath". Very moving pictures. Would you happen to know Eric Sales?

Jay, I saw your new "StarStruck" pics in Flickr. Sulit na sulit sa 'yo ang R-D1s, ah. Pero, di ko na type ang J-3...joke! I like the picture of Stef swinging her hair - i liked the OOF rings. And, Dave with the coffee - nice soft lighting. I'm not familiar with the Industar-10 though.

You guys have inspired me to always a loaded RF at hand. Hindi lang kapag may outing or trying out lenses... :D

Hi!!! .Thanks for taking time to view the images in my blog. The tragedy in Bicol was very moving...First time I have seen destruction of that magnitude and People with such strength! I know Eric Sales indirectly...His brother is one of my friends. He has an ongoing exhibit at a friend's Sudio and Gallery in Mandaluyong right now.An RF user too.

Thefeeling here is mutual.... seeing you guys here gives me a burning desire to shoot film this 2007.

Happy New Year!
Thanks Ray... I liked your Panama Essay...it's very serene and meditative...You know ,the software they use for the Magnum in motion is the "Soundslides" it gives a better output in terms of resolutiom because unlike the compression in a windows video which blurs the details of each image, the soundslides give it a crispness much like in a flash movie. That's what I have been doing lately. It's a lot of fun.....in fact, my wife and kids are having a blast doing their own photography experiments anf post them in in YouTube.

I liked your music too.Who played it?

Link: My best wishes for 2007...plus my featurette (short movie) on rangefinders. Kunyari showbiz. :p

Thank you sa aking special guest! Hehehe.. :D
annie,
that was quite a perk up for an opening picture. ;) that M8, however, is a beauty worth endorsing. kaya pala ganun ang presyo.
and nice meeting you, annie. pinagtiyagaan kong maghintay ma-download with the slowed down internet service!!! editing was great. worth the wait. it can improve on the video quality though. the mac isn't too good on that, i notice. but it is still worth the wait. thanks.

luis,
i saw the slide show of the party of the photojournalists at newsdesk and the resolution was quite impressive. no pixelation! what was the program you used? i am not familiar with magnum in motion nor the soundslides, sorry. anyway, i will try to surf but the slow internet is very testing of one's patience.

Eddie,
It's basically a windows movie editing software that I use.The specific name of the program is "Storyboard" .It's all drag and drop stuff .

You're right! the images are sharp-looking because I saved it at the highest setting possible short of HD quality settings but YouTube still compressed it a bit during the uploading. It's fun....you just have to adjust shooting styles a bit and shoot more adjacent key poses and shoot stills like a video cameraman.hehehe then add some quick dissolve transitions .
Although it's a far-cry from the magnum stuffm it's very good for playing back to friends and family instead of the usual powerpoint. :)

Hi Luis,

Small world! I came to know Eric through another forum but haven't met him yet. Yeah, he uses a Leica M. I have told him about this site but maybe he's quite busy.
Try ko ulit...

@ Eddie: Thanks for viewing and am glad you liked it! I made the short movie using iMovie HD that came with iLife. The file was too big and there's not enough space in my standard .mac account which I am just trying out. It was compressed at the minimum levels. Perhaps, I'll try to convert the video to MPEG-4 and load it in YouTube.

@ Ray and Luis: Your photo essays on video are inspiring! And I agree that making presentations like that for family and friends is quite fun and makes photos more worthwhile to view.

I checked out the magnum essays and podcasts. I liked the feature, "Joy". Sana makagawa tayo ng ganun ano? To the tune of some classic OPM. Ay...ba't lalayo pa tayo - we have our resident musician...music nila Wam! :D

Happy New Year guys! Haven't been able to log on until today. Sorry I missed the party. I think I would have enjoyed holding Jay's cameras and listening to his 78s. We were already home by the 29th but were too tired and had to prepare to go out of town the next day.

I finished my first roll using the canonet and will bring it to the photoshop today. Pics are mostly of my son and wife at home. Haven't been able to bring it out for some street shots. Kasi, due to the advice of Jay and Wam, with Jo Avila concurring, I bought a Canon 400D here and I've been shooting with it since. he he he :D Ang sarap! Galing in low light! It was so easy shooting great pics. But it was also that easiness that made me feel "uneasy" and still made me want to shoot film. So for the beach and New Year, I used film. Yun nga lang, I didn't want salt getting into my newly-acquired canonet ;) and used my LC-A.

All those cameras around you and no one thought of taking pics?

Hope this year is an improvement for each of us and our country.
