If anyone here knows the work of the late Filipino master photograher Eduardo Masferré, -"the father of Filiipino photograhy"- especially what's happening now with his archive, I'd be very intersted in hearing from you. Thanks, Pablito

Many here are familiar and have seen Masferre's work. His last great exhibition, which was perhaps more than a decade ago 'introduced' his work to the local consciousness 🙂. Previous to that, Masferre's photos were largely known (and bought) by tourists who went to his place, who bought postcards printed from the negatives. These negatives (originals!), the last time I heard, are still being held by his heirs. And up until fairly recently, postcards were still being produced from the original negatives. I would assume that this has stopped by now, due to the local disappearance of paper and chemical supplies.

It's a black and aluminum non-RF, VF35 with very 1960s styling. Clean top, no controls visible at all. Focuses by scale. And most unique feature is film advance/shutter cock function: done by turning ring on mount of lens. Body resembles a Rollei 35 but about 25% bigger. The lens shade is also unique- when not in use, it serves to camouflage the lens barrel.

Wam, the Werra on the page is almost the same as Uro's. The one brought here has a flat, clean top and has no meter. Lens hood, lens, and winding features are the same.

Jay, great pics! That canon 28 mm lens is one clear glass. I noticed some vignetting on the "smoking granny" and "ask first" pics. How was that achieved?

Thanks for the offer on the paRodinal. Developing isn't within my radar yet. Maybe next year when I might have more space. Besides, I still need an enlarger, right?

where could i get a cheap, generic soft release button...kahit 2nd hand. this button is fits all kinds of brands right?

i forget who told me at the rf users eb that he got his button for only 50pesos.

As with Ray_g...Ganda ng pics and gritty too! I liked "Steps, Abandoned Bank Facade". Thanks for sharing. Buti pa kayo dyan maraming photo-ops and the people aren't so aloof. Buti hindi nag-overheat yung RD-1 mo...ehehe.

Fave ko rin ang 'abandoned steps'. It and 'smoking granny' were grabshots. Though the granny did pose so kindly and patiently while I changed from one camera to another.

Hindi naman nag-init ang R-D1s. I was shooting with it the whole morning. I found a Kiev case which proved to be the perfect anti-chimping device. The case was so tight and had no window behind so the camera's lcd was folded in and I couldn't do immediate post-views. Just like shooting with film. I still have lot of RD1 pics from that fiesta. All in colour, though two were converted to BW. The Jupiter12 (pimping for GAS!!!) made great colours!

Nick, the vignetting was due to the lens itself. The Canon 28 dates from the 1960s or perhaps even earlier. I did some 'burning-in' on the 'granny' pic, but the lens really produces fall-offs at the edges.

You only need a developing tank, a reel, and a changing bag to do film developing. Enlargers aren't necessary. Even if you had one, chances are you'll find it difficult to get printing papers. A good film scanner (one of the film-capable flatbeds from Epson or Canon would do nicely) is a good substitute for an enlarger. Digitised pictures from your negatives can be edited and subjected to digital equivalents of the stuff done in the wet darkroom. Prints can be made using a good photo-inkjet printer, or send them out to Kodak or Fuji if you wish.

ahhh ... i showed you a Php50-soft release button on my leica m6. and you said, wow! a japanese product over a german camera! the button is a nikon. it went on sale at well's photo makati. and, i just called to check if they have. well, it was a hour past closing but the one who answered said they might still have it.
but i have another another own soft release button which i DIYed from an old 5 centavo coin, a small screw and silicon gel, just in case well's ran out of it. btw, they also sold some nikon lens hard containers for Php50 @. i hope they are all still on sale.

it took me three trains to get my film loader, a reel for a gift stainless steel tank and some 2nd hand lens filters. and i am happy in spite of the fact that the reel was too big for my steel tank. :bang:

i finally found rational commercial in sta. cruz! the owner -- they call him sir alex -- sold me an AP bobinquick film loader for Php900. he would not budge for my Php700 asking price. original was Php1290. 🙄 anyway, i had to do a few tweaks and it is now working and ready to rock and load. the loader came with about 20 refillable cartridges. i have one loaded with hopefully 36 frames (so it said on the dial of the loader but i will soon find out how accurate that is).
and, i have to go back and take the trains again to get a smaller reel for the tank. so the parodinal you gave me sits quietly in a dark cool corner (but i hear it is a toughie and can endure our weather). anyway, i have this weekend to look forward to for some bw shooting. and, hopefully, next week i can do some developing.

well, it may have been an isolated case but my friend's arm got stabbed by a balisong after he took a photo of some homeless person in quiapo. someone from behind just appeared and demanded that he erase the photo. he explained that it was a film camera and he could not erase it. well, he pulled his balisong out, lunged for my friend's chest; my friend shielded himself with his arm; and the assailant just walked away. he had an M2 and i was wondering if that would have been a good shield or a weapon. well, my friend actually thought the crazy man was after his camera. when my friend said it was a film camera and he saw that it looked old and a bit shabby, he probably just vented out his frustration by aiming to kill. tsk. tsk.
the risks do add some thrill to street photography, i must say.

I stumbled upon this thread and was hooked. I read all the posts till the wee hours of the early night (I looked like a zombie today.)🙂 The tons of knowledge on this thread is amazing expecially reading about Hidalgo's lost glory, Botica de Sta Cruz's historical significance and the Jupiter's amazing value and performance (makes me want to buy the J-3.) Even the posts regarding vinyl is great, I love them to the extent I don't have a CD player at home except the one on my PC. btw, what is GAS?

I used to be an SLR user till 4 years ago when I handled my friend's RF, after that, it was all downhill. Sold all my SLR gears save for one all mechanical and a few manual focus lenses.

Hey guys, any know a reliable service guy that can calibrate RF lenses? The focus of one of lenses seems to be off.

Looking forward to actively post on this thread.
