pablito,
the first time i encountered his work was some years ago when i brought my family to the mountain province. i was so impressed i bought a shirt for my son, some prints and got a book on his works. the book was a 1999 publication.

Thanks, Eddie, I'd love to go there some day.

my letter to jorge ...
hi jorge,
i just like to second jay's request for a regional section for the filipino rf users in the forum. we are a very active group and i would deeply appreciate any help in spreading the use as well as in upgrading our skills on rf usage in the philippines. i have been learning a lot from this forum and my fellow countrymen have been very very supportive of my newfound passion. actually, it was because of this forum that i found new friends in my own country who share the same passion. i hope you can find the time to help us.

hope we get approved!

jay, thanks for the patience on my canonets. i hope you could finally take out that darn crumbling light seals. :p

...and thanks for the advise on the Industar 61 L/D. GAS! GAS! GAS!!!

i couldn't help it. bought a FED2 for my friend Jun (he was with me during the party...yup, the other dreadlock) on ebay and the seller was selling the industar. shipping at no extra charge! he'll be including an extra lens hood as well!

cant wait to get the package...and cant wait to have a Jupiter 3! :bang:

Ayan! Dumadami na tayo....Hello and welcome to the new members! Our small thread has indeed grown. Sana nga ma-approve yung Pinoy regional group dito. Hehehe. Thanks Jay and Eddie for making the request.

Showbiz tidbit: I was googling for "Filipino" and "Leica" to see if there were other Pinoy photo buffs using Leica (or RFs for that matter) - I stumbled upon Francis M's multiply site on account of his D-Lux 3. RF user rin pala siya - he has a Canonet.

RE: GAS - I think I'm just one lens away to complete my kit: a 25mm or 24mm - but never say never, as they say. :bang: How about you guys?

I just got a chrome LTM J-3 in the mail last Wednesday, ca 1961. Meron na 'kong backup to the backup. ehehehe. So I hope that ends my GASsing for Jupiters. :D (nako, tatawa na naman si Jay). I got the Industar 61 L/D last month but haven't used it yet. The weather here is not so good. It was announced in our area today that it's "Frigid Friday" - kasi below zero ang temp. -20F ngayong gabi. Hay nako... Next week, I'm expecting delivery of my Luigi halfcase in "aged brown". :) It's hard being cooped up in the house - napapa-internet shopping ako 'sus miyo!

Speaking of RF repairs, I'll be sending mine for viewfinder upgrades. I hope I can have my M6 modified so that it looks like an M6J. (M6 with M3 dials, lever and frame selector). I'll be getting my Contax IIA BD back from the shop after a month of waiting (I somehow managed to ruin the focusing :bang: )...

Sana Mr. Melchor Ong and Mr. Mike Santos would teach their skills to the younger generation. One of my worries when I go back home is the lack of reputable RF repair service. :( Babaw 'no? :D

@ Eddie: I modified the video in my mac site so that it's MPEG-4 and the video quality seems better than the previous version. I made a YouTube version, but the quality was somewhat degraded though.

@ Nick: You can shoot at speeds slower than 1/15 without much blur - just tuck in your elbows and press your RF harder on your forehead.

Sige...I hope when I log back in, meron ulit tayong bagong member...:D

annie,
what's the link again to your mac website? i was going to search the thread but the dsl is again slow right now.
and, it is dreadful what mari ramos of CNN has been reporting regarding the weather there. nakakasira ng ulo yan!!! but in your case, you just seem to be buying the right tools.
the weather here has gotten cooler too lately; enough to stoke some gas. i just checked out the kewl werra jay and wam were talking about. tulo laway. i almost asked my sister to get me one through ebay again. but temperance prevailed ... especially after the wife reminded me of the recent purchases. :bang: i need a blizzard to cool this gas down. can you bring some over? blizzard. pwede na rin yung werra. :D that werra could have been a very nice addition to the collection. it is not expensive really, i whimpered, but my ilocana wife prevailed. keeping the peace was the wiser option. so i postpone.

Jay and Wam,
i hear that the werra shutter mechanism conks out if you mistakenly press the shutter release button while advancing the film. is that true? and, does anybody know how to fix that here in the philippines? i dread buying one with such a problem. if it can easily be fixed here, it may be less of a hassle than returning. i read somewhere that those skilled in repairing werra are an extinct species. :(

nelson,
the feeling you have for the J-3 is the initial symptom. GAS stands for gear acquisition syndrome. and, it seems that you have had it bad for some time by the looks of it... like most of us here.

Hi Eddie,

LOL!! Ah yes, I am guilty of GAS. The sleepless nights, the hours surfing the net researching that particular item and dreaming the possible pics possible with the new acquisition.

Nelson

What lenses do you need to be calibrated? If you send the lens, you might as well send the camera along which you wish to be calibrated. I do not think that Mike has a suitable RF to test your lens's calibration against. RF lens calibration, for the most part, is about adjusting cams to make sure that they engage correctly to the camera's optics. Focusing- and its accuracy- depends on how the various actions engage and translate to correct focus settings. Unlike in an SLR where correct focus is determined by what is seen on the focusing screen.

Jay

Hi Jay,

Thank you. I am getting inconsistent sharpness on my 90mm summicron APO (recent GAS attack, newly acquired) especially at wide open. It could be my technique. Some of the pics have shaprness 1 to 2 feet in front of the subject and some are dead on. Maybe I am asking too much, shooting at wide open and printing it at 8x10 prints.

Regards,

Nelson

Should we ask for one to be formed for the Pinoy RFers? There's a recent post requesting for a regional Israeli group to be formed, for 5 active members.
There are more than 5 of us, so baka puede na? I already made a similar request a few months ago, but got no reply. Try natin ulit.

Jay
Jay,

Let's go for it!! i am all in.

Regards,

Nelson

Hi Wamjam,

dumating na ba yung industar mo? Who is the seller on ebay? Is he reliable? Just like you, am seriously considereing the J-3 but I am hesitant due to news of erratic focus. Parang lotto daw, minsan ok, minsan hindi.

Finally decided to get me a russian made RF. Have seen a lot of ebay items but being a newbie in ebay, I don't know which one are reliable sellers (short of looking at the seller's feedback rating). Maybe you guys can help me out. Thanks.

There seems to be a GAS epidemic! God help us! :D

Jay and Annie, thanks for the info. I'm always glad to get info and advice from the people in this forum. Camera shake has been a consistent problem with my LC-A. Gusto ko na ngang ibenta. But that would translate into GAS for an RF camera.

BTW, does each of us need to do anything to get the regional thing approved/to move along?

i just got email from seller. it will arrive within 10-14 days. this is the first time i'm trying this seller out. he responds almost immediately, except on weekends.

seller name: blyatnikov

Eddie and Wam, what batteries are you using for your canon ql17 gIII's?
If 1.5v alkaline, do you find that you can use the meter or do you compensate like what I've read others do, like set a lower ASA setting on the camera, etc.?

Thanks.

IIRC, the QL17 GIII's circuitry regulates the voltage, and you can use the 1.5v batteries without need for compensation. I have used the SR44 silver oxide batteries, since the voltage is more constant. With alkaline, there is a progressive decline in voltage as the battery gets older. Maybe that is what they are adjusting the ASA to compensate for.

Need help. I was shooting my canon last night. No problems with the first few frames. Then I tried to use the flash. After putting it on the cam, the shutter felt stuck. Removed the flash but still couldn't shoot. I moved the rings on the lens and was able to press the shutter. Tried the flash on again, but the shutter felt stuck again. Removed the flash, moved the rings again, but the shutter still felt stuck. After a while, I was able to press the shutter again. Then, without the flash, it would get stuck on and off.
What's the problem and what's the solution?
Thanks.

Ray, thank you for the info.

Request for Pinoy RF subgroup ignored/denied?

Request for Pinoy RF subgroup ignored/denied?

Just back from a shoot in Mindoro. Last week, I requested the forum's administrator, via PM, for a Philippine regional club to be formed. Got no reply in my inbox, nor was a regional club formed. The Israelis got one almost immediately after requesting for one. And there "are only 5" (according to the one who made the request) of them. Bakit kaya?
