FP-100C discontinued

If there would be a easy 4x5 back to slot in the back of my 350 I'd buy it in a heart beat. Removing the backdoor ain't big issue, but I'm not going to build the back by my self, not interested in that sort of tinkering.

This issue is a huge blow to my plans for next few years. I planned on using FP100C as my only colour medium. Now I have one 10 pack box ordered, let's see if it ever delivers. That will allow me to do this autumns project. After that, Land Camera bye bye and I must start developing c41 at home. Not that it would be a difficult task, simply adds one more step to my workflow. And it doesn't give as nice "texture" as reclaimed negatives did.

I'm so happy right now that I didn't order pack film back for my GW690 last month like I planned to.
 
Beside the Land 340 I own also a pinhole Polaroid camera which uses this kind of film ...

I sign the petition but a similar petition was made when Fuji discontinued the FP-3000B with no positive result 🙁 ...so sad...

I know how much you like using such cameras, Robert. I still have not taken even one photo yet with my Land 250. Maybe this is good so that I have more film!
 
I just remembered I have an EE 100 Special that I bought because of the easy clam shell design, and all black color. I'll have to crank down the Light/Dark dial though since it's calibrated for 75 or 3000 speed stuff, and all I have is a couple packs of FP100-C.

Hey anyone here know who's done a conversion of a Land camera to take sheet / roll film / Instax Wide? Just wondering if such a thing is even possible. I would think that something like Instax (maybe not the wide one since it ejects on the landscape side) is doable.
 
I just bought a bunch (10 B&W packs + 4 color), even though I don't yet have a back for my Mamiya. Hopefully the order will actually be filled! According to the web site the color packs were the last available.

I saw that the prices at various places were escalating quickly, right after I ordered.
 
A Polaroid 110a to Instax wide can be done. Also a 6000SE to Instax Wide. EXPENSIVE, but cool I think. This guy is known as Option8 and Ive heard he does very fine work. http://www.polaroidconversions.com/instax/

I have an expensive Fuji FP-1 (and a small stockpile of peel-apart film). At some point, I will have to get out the Dremel Tool and see if I can fit an Instax Wide back to the thing..
 
Even at 13.99, it is cheaper in today's dollars than Polaroid 669 was way back in the day.

It will be a long while before stocks run out on this. And then there will be the afterlife for expired film.

That's been done. I saw one recently around instagram with a schneider angulon, looked quite nice.

The Polaroid 110's are interesting, I recall a (pink!) converted to 4x5 in an article on Magnachrom (MF-LF mag, 2006-2007) and that's how I became aware of the model long ago.

Yeah I came across the converted Wide300 (IG handle: wide_300x) and their franken-InstaxWide and it takes a large format mount. Although I think it could be done, it would probably require way too much cutting up of the Land's (more than just the back cover) to get one of these sandwiched inside. Worth a shot if I run into a cheap instax body.

I believe you are right. Wholesale distributors of Fuji's FP-3000b black and white film ran out of stock only a few months ago, though its discontinuance was announced almost two years ago.

I've talked to two of the biggest worldwide film distributors yesterday.
Both said the demand was very low and decreasing in the last years.
So Mr. Hunt is probably wrong.

The people at Fuji are not idiots. If the demand for this film would have been stable or even increasing, why should they stop production of a product without direct competition?

The main markets for pack film have been professional photographers in studios (for proofs) and passport photography. Both markets are long gone. That is the reality, face it.

What is needed now?
- a polaroid back for instax wide film
- a high quality camera (like the Fuji FP-1) for instax wide film
- an instax wide BW film.

And what a chances of that? Zero for high quality camera, very slim for BW Instax (they would've done it by now) and poor for polaroid back.

After all, as you said, there is weak (and decreasing) demand for this.

No, there is an increasing demand for Instax film. Fuji had just another sales record last year.
Instax as integral film has to major advantages compared to pack film:
- no mess / garbage
- the magic that you can watch the slowly developing picture (that is fascinating lots of people).

Just talk to users of Instax Wide film: Almost all will tell you that they either want a better camera and / or a polaroid back for their existing cameras. And BW film as a supplement to colour film.
There is definitely a market for all of that.

I understand all that. Except that I think that Instax is inferior to FP-100c, but that is beside the point.

But you are saying that the users that already had ALL the things (and much more) that all Instax users want (according to you) are using less and less FP film. Why would Instax turn that around? Just because it's a bit less messy but otherwise inferior?

I'm not buying it. I do hope that Fuji buys it, though.

Edit: And all Instax users I've talked to actually wanted Polaroid 180/190, but settled for Instax because it was just a LOT cheaper.
