framing with the Heliar 75mm

Hello

I would like to buy the Heliar 75 f2,5 to use with my RD1 but I think it could be very difficult to frame with the lens (w/o an external VF).

Are you using this combo (w/o VF) ? can you post some pics?

The idea is to use the lens exclusively for street portraits. Do you think in the end is better to use a 50mm lens?

Thanks in advance

Regards

Nuno

What is called "street photography" comes in many flavours. All focal lengths in the 28mm to 135mm range have a place in it. My guess, though, is that a 50mm would be somewhat more flexible than a 75mm. As for the framing, I think you'll need a finder for reasonable accuracy.

There have been suggestions how to add extra frame markers to the R-D1 frame masks, such as this one for "dots" to mark the edges of the image area for a 90mm lens. You could probably do the same for a 75mm lens as well.

While an external finder could be useful to increase framing accuracy, finding one for the 120-mm equivalent of the 75mm Heliar will be difficult, so that framing will not get that much more accurate after all. A zoom finder seems like the best solution to me, to which you then add a mark for your 75mm lens.
