In case A, how would you focus with a rangefinder patch, anyway? You'd probably be focusing on one then adjust the distance.
You should be able to do the same with the Fuji, which has a distance readout in the finder.
There will be sacrifices, as there always are with a new camera. We won't get the AF responsiveness or speed of the Hexar; it likely won't be a pleasure using manual focus as with your M3; however, not having to mess with those Hexar buttons for things like exposure compensation will likely make up for it.
One thing I noticed is how much effort they've taken in making this camera compact; using microlenses introduces extra expense which they could have avoided with a different lens design. But they've gone for compactness over low cost - the complete antithesis of its SLR competitors.
This is what we call thread drift. There is now a forum for the X100, so finding details on the camera in a more focused thread will not be hard.
The X100 is somewhere between "concept Camera" and "Prototype camera". With the feedback received after Photokina, let's all hope it is close to the concept/protype shown. The Hybrid viewfinder is exciting to Techies, the fixed-lens RF nature is exciting to users of vintage cameras, and the fast-wide angle lens is exciting for street-shooters. This camera also makes good use of digital technology, integrates it into a better product. Combining an OVF and EVF- wow, the sum of the parts.
The thread has drifted in and out of "why I do not like Digital cameras vs film" several times. And drifted in and out of "Why I hate Leica/ Why I love Leica" several times.
So basically- this thread has been all over the place, because this is an exciting camera. It is probably not the best place to gather technical details, more of a thread to get a pulse on RFF members.

I can't wait to get this camera so I can take pictures of my pets and my kids... (oh, ****, I don't have any).
I am going to take a lot of pictures with My Kid with this camera. And she wants a pet.

people wanted to take pictures, but they didn't have willing family or pets, so they went out to the public streets to "borrow" other subjects.
Go to the library and check out some books on pets and do some research, then go to the shelter and see what pets are available for adopting.
Start walking your cute pet around the park mornings and nights, and in no time, you may even have a family soon...
You are welcome for this advice. I usually charge for it 😉

I highly recommend you get Nikki a pet.
An added bonus, is with a MF camera, she'll learn to MF on a moving subject, a skill she'll be able to use out in the wilds if she takes up wildlife photography.

OK, its been confirmed. At least some companies do listen to the fans' reactions to pre-release information. Nintendo boss Satoru Iwata confirmed this week that the reason the new Nintendo 3DS will be launched at an elevated price is due to the euphoric response fans gave the preview at the E3 Expo in June.

I did see the X 100 through its glass box at Photokina. No means of persuasion could get them to take it out for me to play with!
However, if the specs are correct - this is the first digital Rf since the RD1 that I would consider getting!
It does look like a Hexar RF ( remember the one with the fixed 35f2) - which was a neat camera - except for its rather miserly top-speed.
The X 100 has all the good things going for it. Optical viewfinder, a 35mm lens, manual focus, a respectable amount of pixels and a compact size.
My questions are mainly on the performance at higher iso. Top is listed as 6400 - but how much noise is there?
How complex is the menu ( i fervently hate pushing buttons for resetting things or changing settings)?
What is the "delay" in the release?
Oh, will it be available in black. The prototype in the glass case looks like a "cheapo" 60's Agfa.
In any case, if Fuji can put this on the market at under $1000 - Leica should be afraid, very afraid! Fuji makes great optics so I have no fear that the lens is not up to "snuff" - and as it covers the equivalence of a 35 on a M body - this could be the ultimate camera for "walk about" shooting.
I don't care about live-view, flash synch or "multiple" menu options. I just want to have a digital Rf that is equal to a M2 with a 35f2 lens - and this is the first one I have seen that could work for me.

These two items were the most impressive items I saw at 2010 Photokina - and both came from the same manufacturer!
Yes. I saw the $25000 M9 Titanium at Leica. The only good news about that camera is that it will allow Leica enough profit to develop a "EVIL" M10 at some time in the future. Thats what they said the money was going to be used for. Maybe 25 of the X 100 would
make more sense.
If the X 100 flies (and it seems likely that it will be a huge hit) - there would be even more incentive to develop a X 200 with interchangeble lenses, a 35/50/75 or 90 package!

Tom, Nice to hear your input coming from the film side of the house. I'm sure this will be a hit. The only wish would be a chip that could mimic Tri-X and Double-X films? Well I can't ask for everything. 🙄 I can sure see this being my first serious digital along with my trusty IIIa. The X 100 would go well on skit riding the Chuo line down to Shinjuku on my way to Map camera.
