Fujifilm X-Pro1 details leaked!!!

I for one will be using it only with its native lenses (well, maybe...). I applaud Fuji for making a camera that seemingly goes a long way towards getting me away from relying on Leica digital cameras.

But you will miss the use of the rangefinder patch, won't you?

I know it's not exactly the same, but I still rate the 'focus where you want in MF using distance scale of AE-L button, and then make sure you're within hyper focal range' thing with the x100. it's really not THAT different to just setting a manual lens to hyper focal..
 
$1400 with a lens seems like a pretty legitimate price. i dunno about you guys, but am i the only one who thinks $1700 for body only is pretty nuts? you can virtually get a D700 for that price (only trying to reference build/sensor quality).

yeah i know nikon probably has the R&D plus economy of scales working in its favor, but FF versus APS-C should roughly correct for that, expense-wise...

aren't the NEX bodies selling for around about a grand?

i totally applaud Fuji for seeing this through (X100, X10, and now this). definitely an awesome way to defibrillate the digital RF (well, rough equivalent) market, and hopefully other manufacturers try to follow, thus driving down prices for us, but -- still on the expensive side.

No, not nuts at all. Could it be cheaper? Sure, but there is nothing else like it on the market. The NEX-7 is a different concept. Fuji gets what photographers who like rangefinder style cameras are looking for. Sony does not. Now, if you like DSLRs, then you should buy one of those over this. For those of us who do not like DSLRs, then this is seemingly as good as it gets without relying on Leica.

Full frame is not everything. These APS-C sensors are quite capable especially when they have native lenses designed for the camera. Nex-7 is $1200 without lens and about $2000 with its Zeiss lens.
 
A friend has asked if this will be a "Leica killer" - I don't think so.

Leica's brand is where it is because it sells what it sells to those that appreciate and "can afford" that brand - and by that, I mean NEW Leica equipment. The used stuff that we love to use because it's built so well doesn't, imho, really help Leica's bottom line - yes it is cult status but it doesn't get them revenue.

Fuji's new camera will, I believe, have a lot of M-mount purists moving over to their brand (with used m-mount lenses in hand of course). The m-mount adapter, according to Fuji via DPReview, will be the FIRST adapter available for the X-Pro1 - Fuji's not dumb - they know and hear the folks out there who are not doctors, dentists, movie stars, rock stars, or higher end photographers. They know they can attract enough folks over to this new body.

I'm interested but await more information - I like the files (just jpgs still) out of the X10 P&S so I can just imagine a larger sensor with Fuji's technology... I can see so many folks raising their hands and looking to the sky saying "Thank you !!!"

The X100 sensor is as capable as the one in the 5D2 and has much better WB. If hte one in the X1 is even better it is good enough for me.
I don't care for a brand, if the X1 is good enough for me on AF and shutterlag I can see to leave Leica M and step over to digital entirely. I'm not planning to use M-lenses on a X1. Just too awkward and slow.
Anybody wants to buy some M lenses?
 
good for you, fuji -- looks like a product of a great design team
I'll probably stay with my Nex-7 because of smaller size and, while I like optical finders, the evf is pretty good and has special benefits (100% framing all lenses , dof when used at stopped down, great solution to legacy lens use - M and slr)
but the competition in different non-slr solutions right now is leading to some great cameras - so keep going fuji
btw, the short sensor-mount distance could lead to some VERY compact cameras in the future

1700 bucks for a new camera with a factory warrantee with some of the latest features--features that I find desirable--seems a better deal than a nearly 3 thousand dollar used digital rangefinder with name caché, that might require a vacation to an obscure German town before we can consumate our relationship. 😛

I'm really interested in the lens performance, but as someone has said earlier in the thread, the Fujinon lenses that I've seen aren't dogs.

I not so sure why everyone is always trying to kill Leica. Leica is a luxury brand and Fuji is a consumer brand. Nothing wrong with either, but they do not compete in the same circles. I think it would be rare (not impossible) that someone was SERIOUSLY going to buy the M9 and now isn't because of the Fuji. Most Leica users who will buy the Fuji are those that were never serious about a M9 purchase. Nothing wrong with that... the X-Pro1 appears to be a great value.
 
For me Fuji is competing with Leica. I was planning to save for a M9/10 this year. Now I'm not so sure anymore.
I've used almost any brand in the industry. I just need what works for me.
I already said it when I bought the X100, "If they make one with a wide angle and a tele, I'll buy them too". Now they have it all.
