Fujifilm X-Pro3 Thoughts?

That's probably based on preferring to shoot in bright daylight or high contrast light with lots of shadow area, both of which seem to play badly with details in EVFs. I watched the dpreview video review of the XP3 yesterday and it did not give me any points that would change my mind about my dislike of the camera. The reviewer found the flippin' screen to be a pain to use in reviewing images but he did think it made a good hand grip for the bottom of the camera. The real sad thing that I took from it is that Fuji seems to be trying to kill off the hybrid viewfinder. The reviewer said he stopped using the OVF completely during the video because he found he had to use the EVF to review his images since the flippin' screen was such a pain and, since it was also a pain to go from the OVF to the EVF and then back again he just decided to do without the OVF.

There has been a lot of negative comments made online about the new XP3. Much of it coming from current Fuji users like me. That may not work out well for Fuji. The XP3 might become Fuji's M5.

Chris from dpreview has a strong bias against Fuji ...watch any Fuji review he has done...
 
I'm with you guys - shoot 23-56mm and on every digital camera I've owned or use I turn the screen off. Once set up I barely ever go into the menus. Can't stand command dials on DSLR/mirrorless cameras. The closer a camera can function to my Leica M, the more I like it. I'd buy a Leica M-D if I was flush but alas.

We're the target market for sure. It's interesting to see how well something like this can suit our needs but also how vehemently dissatisfied it can make everyone else.

The Dura silver finish looks gorgeous, but it must be very eye catching, Even some reviewers have said this in the sudden burst of YouTube videos. I'd go for Dura black because it won't attract as much attention.

I'd have to try it to see if it works for me, BUT, I can imagine quite easily using this without using the screen. I often shoot with the EVF function in my Fuji X100 classic, as this shows me exactly what the image will look like before I take it. So unless I'm shooting action, or trying to see if I've got someone with their eyes closed, I don't have much need to immediately review my images.

The flip screen means that I could shoot with the X-Pro 3 from waist level, something that suits me fine.

Yep, durablack for me too... because I’ve already had two regular black x-pros. Any other camera, I’d choose the cheapest option. However, the x-pro series is my favorite camera and I know I’ll keep it for many years at least.

I've been following this discussion and jumping in amidst posts that feel friendly and positive toward Fuji's efforts, it was only reading here about the OVF that got me to play with magnifciation on mine. I used it all these (couple, three) years not realizing how much better the finder can be particularly for 35mm.

Damn! It feels like an M3 with more info in the finder! I'm still, with the dust-up, interested to see the X Pro 3 finder compromise but will enjoy my XP 2 even more now.

In Leica, I have my MM but really miss using my glass on a color body so I have considered selling the Fuji kit to fund a used M10 or maybe even M262. I have resisted because I hate to part with the Fuji, it is such a nice camera, and in so many ways. Recently I am using my 35 Summicron on it again, (having stupidly let my 35 f 1.4 go but ) loving both the results and feel but the view way more now.

It’s like choosing a car: some look better in one color than another. The particular, muted contours of the X-Pro3 look best in the Dura silver, IMO. Not sure how bad it’ll look with fingerprints and dust, though.

If you aren't using the OVF you might want to try an XT3 too. The bigger EVF is very nice. Shame they didn't put that into the XE3.

I used the Fuji for all sorts of photography from 14 to 400mm so the mappable buttons were very useful.

It is a great feature. I was always hoping Fuji would have gone the other direction and add a third magnification to the VF. One for 14mm and above, a middle ground and then a lifesize vf option.

I’ve used them all. I’m an old rangefinder fan, so I prefer that shape. I Don’t like the X-T series but I do use the X-E3 and X-H1 also. However, the X-Pro is my favorite. The X-Pro3 is perfect for me.
 
After all the griping is said and done, I think I'm still going to get one even though it's not a big step forward like the X-Pro2 was.

Pros
- "C" setting on ISO dial, set with the front dial (no longer a push button).
- Status monitor on a rangefinder-style camera. Finally! (Backlight would be nice.)
- Larger eyepiece and more eye relief.
- AF Range Limiter might make it good enough to match manual scale focusing by feel. Cautiously excited about this. 😀
- Waist-level shooting (in landscape mode) if you want it.

Cons
- No more dual mag OVF and 18mm framelines. The OVF is 0.52x, so hopefully they add it back in a firmware update. 🙁
- Still no IBIS. 😡
- Same old battery. :bang:
- Fully-articulated LCD would have made both the true believers and the agnostics happy. 🙄

Not this agnostic. I truly hate fully articulated screens. Nothing screams Dad at a Wedding more than guys who prefer this method of framing photos. I know it’s my hang up, but I’m not alone.
 
My initial reaction was that I especially like the film sim modes. And maybe I would still if I owned an X Pro 3 but on reflection I seldom shoot in jpg as I just like the ability to pull more info out of RAW files. I accept though that Fuji files are different and somewhat special so I am in two minds. Perhaps I will have to get one and find out for myself.

You can do both at the same time...but I'm with you. I do RAW because I deal with many different types of light and actually don’t mind post processing.
 
I like the simulations but find that if I don't really nail the exposure and or am shooting a scene is simply too complex, I feel weird loading a JPEG into PS rather than just working with RAW to begin with. I keep trying though to find a really good file in jpeg to leave as is. Most often it is shadow detail that needs some work to enhance detail. So I tend to open jpegs first on the computer and decide from there which files I will work with.
