what?
so in the meantime they will dazzle us with slightly dissimilar similarities. the x100/xp1 were innovative, excellent tools that set a standard. they did have some issues, not the silly AF speed problems, but real issues like incompatible raw software and lenses too large to glean a dslr size advantage. and since then others have caught up to and surpassed the standard those two products laid down. nothing since their introduction has moved the ball forward on either front, and this release seems no different. that sentiment and/or the audacity to utter it seems to cause great anger among some fuji enthusiasts, but not that segment of fuji enthusiasts to which i belong: those that have admired their history of innovation and would like to see them continue along that not this road.
Your point is well made, but I am not imagining that Fuji will stop developing other X formats (I HOPE they don't
But if any new body design can pull in new customers and generate positive cash flow (and add to seling the same lenses) - they'd be foolish not to pursue that.

I just noticed the separate ael and afl buttons plus two scroll wheels. One in front under the shutter release and the other just below and between the two new ael/afl buttons. I wonder how they plan to use the two scroll wheels? Since almost all their lenses have aperture ring, i would not suspect the same way the em5 or nex7 would?
Gary
Ps they even added a focus assist button next to the q button.
I'm curious about the two dials as well. Looks a bit more cluttered than it needs to be, if you ask me.
Hopping on a previous comment, if the articulating screen can be flipped to face inside (RD-1 style), that would be pretty cool.

At least one dial is required for the lenses with no aperture ring.
Likely both are programable for a given function.
For example one could make one dial for aperture and the other for manual focus magnification level.
We'll find out. I don't see this as cluttered really.

Incompatible raw sw is not their issue any longer. Both capture one and irediant have already proven one can be done w/ the info that they have provided. This is still an apsc sensor and a digital af camera system, lenses need to be a certain size.. Otherwise u are going to have trade offs u need to live w/.
At the end of the day they need to make money.. If these other products help them to make money so that there is a future xe3 or xp2, then the end game is the same. On the other hand if all u are concerned w/ is the film portion of their history, I rather doubt they are going to do much in the future there.
If u value their history so much, then u should be aware they had a film slr and a dslr via Nikon body that was gutted of the digital electronics for their own.

I was kinda of thinking the same..but I thought I would throw it out to c what others would come up w/.

Ok I was looking at the contacts at bottom of camera. Those w/ the vertical grip/release battery holder on other cameras.. That seems to be more gold contact points then would be required.

let's not forget that some of the most important merits of fuji are making user friendly interfaces that mix the old with the new, and striving to make the best products designed for an underserved market. there's more to fuji than internet hype. i think the low key way they're rolling out this camera is nice.

I am SO impressed with the control layout on this camera. It literally is just like a contax SLR but possibly better.
The EVF is supposed to be the biggest on the market and yet it doesn't protrude from the back like the sonys and panasonics do.
Love the understated design - Im not sure it could even be called 'retro' - just looks like a modern camera with wonderfully designed controls. Fuji has another winner.

I really like the design (from the pics) and the very large eyepiece suggests a high-quality EVF. I am not a fan of tilt-only screens (which this one appears to be) - I'd much rather have a reversible, flip-out tilt-swivel screen (even though it makes the camera thicker) or leave it fixed. But that's just me.
The "in-hand" pics on the rumors site makes the camera appear much smaller than the official Fuji images, as does seeing it with the 35/1.4 lens instead of the kit zoom. It's probably only about as big as an E-M1 (if that). The rumored performance specs are very interesting - with 8fps I hope they see fit include a large buffer; if it could match the E-M1 (50 frames) that would be great.

What impresses me is it's rumoured to be sized between the X-E2 & the X-Pro1.

No. Its smaller as an X-E2.
I wish it was as big as the X-Pro1. Never thought I'd feel that way.

My reaction too. I thought it looked a little small. But I am pretty sure it would grow on me.

Spyro, thanks for posting those. I am really glad to see that camera for sale, and I hope it does really well for Fuji. As has been mentioned, it isn't obviously "retro", but had the controls so many of use love. I want to see this layout return to the camera world.
SSMC- I wasn't a fan of flip-out screens, but I've come to like the limited-flip out on my EM-1 - it works well as a waist level finder. It grows on you.

I really don't know what there is not to like about this little powerhouse.
APS-C, full manual controls changeable with a flick of a switch. Sounds like this little baby could even be used for sports at 8 FPS, though I don't know why any average joe needs that.
Its a camera I know I could pick up and instantly start making photos with...
