Getting a bit more digital, company to my 45mm/D300?

Looks like the 20mm 2,8 or the 28mm 2,0 is the one to go for, the 24mm have been considered,
but since its different opinions about it (also about the 28mm 2,8) I have to look a bit more around.
Zoom lenses are probably nice for its use, but also want the "right" feeling/handling with the lenses too.
Also the idea was to have just two lenses since have to get used to colour photography AND digital again,
the last 3 years have just been M6, 50mm elmar and 35mm Nokton as the basic kit
(but i should not complain about that, so not the issue either 😉 )

Wide or more normal , that is the question ;D

If you choose to go with the 20mm length, don't rule out the f3.5 version, although I don't have first-hand experience, others (e.g. Bjorn Rorslett) rate it very highly, and it is known to control flare very well even shooting into the sun.

I don't really use the middle focal lengths on DX (20 to 50 mm)- most shots are with 10-20mm Sigma, 55mm and 105 Micros; but I know one day I'll move the FX for landscape and macro, so I'm still on the look-out for a great wideangle (around 24mm).

I wish they would make a retro digital body like a FE2- no need for any extra buttons or even a LCD, just a fixed RAW mode... but while we wait we can at least enjoy using these great manual lenses on the big computerised bodies....

a 20mm sounds tempting, but a more normal sounds great too, zoomlens would solve all this, but not sure about the "match" to the 45mm nikkor P signature though ..

As my mum would have said, its better to save the money, not spend it, you have enough cameras already...., when I was at your age then we had to . . 😉

As to a wider lens, I have both the 24mm f2.8 AIS and the new Zeiss 25mm ZF. I have done a lot of tests on a D200 in real-world shooting conditions, and I don't think there is a considerable difference. The Nikkor is actually sharper at close focus (but doesn't go quite as close as the ZF). The ZF is also completely free of flare. I wanted a really sharp 24/25mm, but the ZF is not really there at the edges (even on a DX sensor).

Interesting that some of these ZF lenses have not fared so well against Nikkors, I had expected them to do a lot better.

I've owned many of these lenses and I own a D300 with a Katz Eye Screen.
I found that the split screen helps me immensely. I always use to shoot with a matt screen, but I guess since my eyes are not as great as they use to be I need the split to be precise.
I've owned the Nikkor 24 2.0, 24 2.8 and I felt that the 2.0 was a much sharper lens than the 2.8.
The 28 2.8 is a nice lens as well.
I've also had many of the Zeiss ZF's and the 35/2 Distagon is amazing.
The Makro's are amazing as well and 50/2 Makro is wonderful.

Right now I feel like saying mean things . .
The deal for buying a D300 suddenly got kind of changed, don't have any money buying a kit, neither the urge for it,
it have to follow a 16-86 vr something along the D300 .. The owner have gone fullframe (D700)
Can not afford that at all, the D300 was close to the limit but a bargain.
Buying a zoom lens I don't want, then sell it cheap for getting the D300 would give a loss i cant defend too . .

Bummer is a lot nicer word, but kind of lacking the feeling i have now.
Feels like playing monopoly, landing on start and receiving NO money at all 🙂
Think i have to find a plan B/C/D something . .

The idea was transfer a bit more to digital, buying a decent dslr, having two good lenses (primes), and maybe the option for playing with old glass
Did notice the Pentax K200D is almost a give away these days, a kit lens follows though.

Time to think twice a few times, sounds like there have to be sold some gear to fund this,
no clue what is replaceable and not needed in my bag, also what would be easy to sell. . Sounds like the 45mm nikkor P stays on my FM.

Might be it helps writing you frustration in an online forum, still don´t understand nothing here, and the guy who is selling the D300 is not a user her nor other photo forums.

Anyway, I got the deal back, picking up the camera tomorrow!
Think i´ll start looking for a 28mm 2,0 ais as soon as i find some gear to get rid of 🙂

It´s a strange world.

He said the zoomlens was sold in no time when he decided to split the gear.
Go figure.
