why? are you running out of shelf space? straining your finances? not enjoying it as much as you used to? overwhelmed by how much more stuff there is that you'd like to get?
Even then, not as exciting as it used to be. As late as the 1980s, and certainly in the 1970s and 1960s, there were countless camera stores where you never knew what you might find. Now it's all eB, and that's nothing like as much fun as wandering from shop to shop and poking around in forgotten corners.. . . It is exciting chasing the toys we want. . .
i get it. sometimes you need to focus on the art not the tools. It is exciting chasing the toys we want, but sometimes the pleasure we seek in that is an attempt at filling another void in our lives.
Or maybe we need to buy (and sell) a lot of cameras at first, to see what works for us, and then we find out what works for us and don't need to keep buying and selling cameras. I've certainly found this true for myself. My thoughts precisely, and the more infrequently we buy cameras, the more we appreciate them. My first Rolleiflex was nice, but I neglected it as I also owned a Hasselblad. Now I have another Rolleiflex and no Hasselblad, and I love the Rollei so much more, and it's my go-to camera for just about everything.
