Got a IVSB with a Serenar 50/1.5

The guy wouldn't break up the kit, so I ended up with another IVSB body, just like my other one, but got the 50/1.5 and 100/4 lenses. Actually, this one is a tad nicer than my other body, very smooth controls. Just shot a roll through the famous F1.5 lens, let's see what the shutters are doing.

As I guess you already know, the 50mm f1.5 is one of the nicest Canon LTM lenses made. I had one many years ago and sold it as it was not in the best cosmetic condition. I have regretted it ever since. This lens has, I am told, a Sonnar design and like most Sonnars it draws images very well - a kind of "roundness" as well as being sharp enough for most usual purposes. Use it well and enjoy.! It's a gem.

Very nice. The Canon 50/1.5 is a faithful Sonnar formula lens, renders beautifully.

Thanks yall, that's what I heard too. I used the other body in Europe for a couple weeks (still developing the 30 rolls of film!) with a 35/1.8 mostly. I shoot a lot of unusual lenses on large format, so wanted to see what all the discussion was about with this one. One roll in Walgreens as we speak. Cross your fingers for the shutter, and I may sell my other body here and keep this new one. I'm sure I'll like the 1.5 lens.

Well, the lens seems fine, of course. But the mint, smooth operating body has pinholes. See the bottom right of the shot with the girls playing video, and the studio camera shot. Other shots were worse, several dots vertical along the right. Shoot.

That is a fine looking set! The pinholes are not difficult to fix. There are some good DIY solutions here on RFF as well. Enjoy your new lenses and do show us more pictures.

Youxin Ye will CLA the IVSB and put new curtains on it for a very reasonable price. DAG charges a little more. They both do good work.

You need to check with Youxin before sending a Canon: he has emailed me in the past that he quit working on them.

I have tried to find the pinholes with an LED light in my darkroom, to no avail. I was going to try the liquid tape trick. Except for the pinholes, it's an Excellent + condition camera.

How much does someone like Youxin charge for a shutter curtain replacement? I mean, as these cameras are getting cheaper and cheaper (looks like their value is about $150 or less even in top condition) I don't think it's worth spending, say, $200 on. I just shot 30 rolls through my other IVSB in Europe, and while it's not as smooth, it's working fine. Maybe I should sell this body, and live with the less fine one that works?
