Hassleblad, from a reputable company to a complete joke - in a matter of hours.

edit: the more I look at this thing the less I can fathom that a reputable and historic company like hasselblad can put their name to a sony camera, make it uglier, and charge 7 times the price for it. I literally cannot fathom.
The only historic thing about the company is its name. The company has changed hands more than a joint at a Snoop Lion concert.

Can we take this one to the moon and leave it there too? – My first impression only of the design, and the understanding that it is an NEX-7 underneath.
Once I count to ten and take a deep breath, I’ll take a closer look at the specs and see if there is any Hasselblad magic dust they added to improve an already very good APS-C camera.
So sad that they are playing the dopey luxury game, it might be lucrative for them, but I was really hoping for something innovative from Hasselblad that would add to our choices at this interesting time.

A digital XPan would be a much better idea. I know that it is very expensive to make very large sensors, because of a high rate of rejection. But the sensor would not have to be as large as the XPan film area. If they can make a 36mm wide sensor, they should be able to make one that is, say, 25% longer, or about 46mm. Then, by setting the height to 18mm (the same height as an APS-C sensor), the aspect ratio would then be 2.55:1. That's the same as Cinemascope was originally, before the width was slightly reduced to make room for the mag/optical tracks.
How does that sound?

I won't buy one until they come up with a Paul Smith version for twice the price. Can I get that in orange?

If they can incorporate a vibrate feature, I have an excellent suggestion about where they can put this. If not, that suggestion about the moon is good.

I think they looked at the site selling Argus cameras with "wooden" releathering for $2000, and then they started thinking...hmmm...wooden grip on a Sony NEX could go for $6000...

Ouch. I hope it at least looks better in real life than in those pictures.
Too bad. I was hoping for Hasselblad to release something interesting if way too expensive, like a digital Xpan. This piece of news delays those hopes by at least a year.

Why would anyone want a digital Xpan when every cheap digital camera has a panoramic mode - especially Sony, the new overloard of Hassleblad?

Oh, so one joke per thread is not enough. Snoop Doggy Dogg changed his stage name again? The company has changed hands more than a joint at a Snoop Lion concert.

Why would anyone want whatever it is Hasselblad released now? Why have different aspect ratios? Why use a panoramic mode when stitching by yourself gives better results and more freedom? Why are some people still using Xpans? Why would anyone want a digital Xpan when every cheap digital camera has a panoramic mode - especially Sony, the new overloard of Hassleblad?
I'm not saying there is market to justify a digital Xpan, but it is a camera I would enjoy using - or at Hassy prices just read about. It's about how I use a camera, I guess.

I am still trying to wrap my head around the notion that that grip could possibly be comfortable. I won't even try to understand their choice of materials....

I think Leica is behind this. They must have paid Hasselblad a nifty sum to pull this stunt in order to make the new M and the M-E look like excellent value for money in comparison.

I think they got mesmerized by ALPA's wooden handles:

I am deeply disappointed, as they have no handle offering of Bubinga wood.
