I'll be curious to see how the rendering and sharpness differs between this new CV 35/1.4 and the ZM 35/2. I had been thinking of eventually getting the ZM 35/2, but now I'll take a keen interest in the subsequent reviews. I have both the CV 40/1.4 (SC) and the ZM 50/2, but lately I think I've become a bit more fond of the 50 over the 40. Then again, I've got big hands and the 50 is admittedly a bit easier for me to handle. We'll see....
 
Small wonder about the buzz, a 35 f/1.4 sends you deep into available light territory. If this lens improves on the old Summilux 35 recipe, in particular flare suppresion wide open, and close-up performance, then the package is really irresistible.

I know I want one, even as I have a 35mm f/1.4 already, the only question is whether to give in to GAS now or later...😀 🙄 :bang:

Amos, I'd bet there'd be a huge disagreement in opinion with respect to performance and rendering of CV 35/1.4 vs the Biogon, as it happens for about two any random lenses. I do hold high hopes for new Nokton though, Cosina certainly knows how to make some cool lenses 🙂

Actually, this could mean that only those who feel strong enough about the news of a new 35mm lens to comment are the ones who bothered to take a look and "view" this thread.

If we had a thread: "Many Images : Nude Photography with a 35mm/8.0", we may see more views ... and comments even though the 35mm lens has a max aperture of 8.0.

1. If there is more light fall-off at 1.4 with this lens, it will still have more at f/2. The 35/1.2 will be a better lens even at f/2.

2. But then it's not a Noctiliux, whose faults are either invisible or "characters" to the Leica zealots.

I don't like the feeling of having glaucoma ... or even photos that give the same impression, as if taken by a Holga. But that's just me. 😎

I posted a comment similar to this on the Leica Camera Forum. But what I find interesting is the very different response this lens is getting on this forum and on that one.
Here, we are now up to 9 pages of oohing and aahing and wondering.
Over at the Leica Camera forum, a thread in the M8 section has only a little more than a dozen responses.
I know that's a heavily Leica-centric place, but surely a lot of those photographers are using non Leica glass on their cameras.

The folks on the Leica Forum are into the brand a lot more than people on this group. Stands to reason I suppose.

The absurd prices commanded by even used Leica lenses these days means folks who are buying them are buying a feeling more than a funtional photographic tool.

Leica's have always been an interesting study in brand economics and that's only increasing with time and the increasing world wide prices of Leica products, used and new. Thankfully we have options these days and they are getting more interesting with each new introduction. There seems to be hints of future Zeiss ZM products hinted in the comments posted here and elsewhere so I'm looking forward to a very interesting 2008!

I guess it's less economic to produce each lens in 2 varieties. Leica has also given up most chrome lenses.

But maybe Mr. K will release a chrome special edition after a year or so (like for the 35/1.2).

Me for one! 😀 😀 😀

I'm very much looking forward to trying out the new 35/1.4. Only slight snag may be there's a screw in the mount where the 6 bit coding needs to go for the M8. That's why some of us would be interested in a screw mount version. Adapters are available with the coding slots.
