Have You seen the new 35/1.4 Nokton?

Very intriguing and tempting, and it's fun to see the excitement expressed in this thread. Of course I consider how this lens could fit in my kit. I have two 35 f/2 M-mount lenses, one vintage 8-element and one new 9-element, but never had a f1.4. But I have been happily using the 40 Nokton SC, and could see having its "sister" join the team! Or would it just confuse the selection of 35's?
 
I'm intrigued. I have the ZM Biogon 35mm - it is my 95% lens. I'll wait for the user reports... This new lens is going to have to be pretty stellar to make me want to give up the Biogon, even for an extra stop.
 
gregg, not give up, join the team.

i have no intention of handing the 35 biogon over to anyone.
the new 35 will join team bessa and the biogon stays on team zeiss.

in my head...team zeiss is the formal shooting team and team bessa is the casual shooting team.
for shooting, i choose the team depending on my mood.
 
After wading through eight pages of lightly disguised feeding frenzy over this obviously eagerly anticipated lens ... I came to the conclusion that I may finally be able to get myself a superspeed 35 for a bargain price.

Bring on all the secondhand 1.2 Noktons ... I've often mused about having this lens but had no intention of paying $800.00 US for one. I too thank you Cosina but for a different reason. Oh yes !!!! ... anyone wanting to unload their boring old soon to be left in the bag 1.2 Nokton, contact me ... I may give you $400.00 for it. 😀 It would make a nice foil for my Canon 50mm 1.2 and is probably not a lot smaller which will create a nice shooting synchonicity when switching from 50 to 35! 😛

This is a great wish come true for people who are waiting for a cheap 35mm/1.2 lens. Let's hope that people will unload their"beasts' quickly and cheaply. 😀

With TWO Noktons in a single FL, I can see immense confusion brewing on the horizon. 😱

What are we gonna call them? Shall we open up a new thread and an RFF poll? (Help, somebody! 😕 I don't know how to set up a poll or I'd do it meself).

BIG Nok' vs. Little Nok'?
The Beast vs. The Svelte?
The Paperweight vs. the Traveller?
The Bring-out-all-the-stops-for-that-extra-stop-Bank(or XXX)Breaker vs. The Perfect-Lite-Compromise?

I think inventing new entertaining names for them might serve to promote confusion too! How about 35/1.2 Nokton and 35/1.4 Nokton? I know, I know, dullsville... 🙂
 
Hmm...223 posts (not counting this one) in less than 24 hours.

That's one small lens from Cosina, one giant GAS assault for all RFf-kind. 😉

As for confusion with that other Nokton: expect a spate of "Nok-Nok" jokes across various forums in the near-future.

And...I just sold a surplus computer of mine to someone who needed it. Totally unexpected. Depending on the finalized street price of this lens, I either have all the cash required, or am within spitting distance of same.

The house has been pretty quiet these last few hours...is is it just me, brooding over my next move?

If the new 1.4 is priced same as the existing 1.2, neither.

I doubt the price will be that high. Higher than the 40, probably.

I don't necessarily see the two Noktons competing against each other. For those with their shooting priorities...ahem...straight, they'll choose one over the other without too much angst. Those inclined toward speed über alles will still gravitate to the f/1.2; those seeking speed with svelte will go for the new f/1.4. For those few(?) who can't quite make up their minds, buying both these lenses would still be way-cheaper than even a drowned-and-sandblasted Nocti/Summi. I'll just take the f/1.4, thankyouverymuch.

Gotta agree there. It was sharp enough but overall not wonderful in terms of character IMHO. Sold mine.
