My $12 Heavystar hood is as perfect at blocking side light and protecting the lens as my $59 Zeiss hood. They both intrude into the viewfinder just a little bit.
I paid for the Heavystar hood. I got the high dollar Zeiss hood as a bonus when I bought a lens here on RFF. The Zeiss hood has a few nice things about it but certainly not a 4X differential in price.
If what you want to do is block extraneous light and protect the lens, the Heavystar version is what you need.
If you are into brand name lens hoods and style / fashion, then the Leica or Zeiss hood at 4X the price is the thing for you.

I use these to fabricate hoods for the older LTM lenses that require the screw clamp filter. I sacrifice an old scratched filter then glue the hood with silicone to the mounting ring. It works great! I've used them for other applications with great results too.
