How about starting a 50mm/1.5 lens test?

Raid: I have two Contax adapters a five lenses lined up here - don't forget the Summilux. Probably go off Tuesday though tomorrow is a possibility.

Thank you, John. That would be great.
I met with Robin an hour ago, and he gave me his J-3 for the test. I want 4-5 J-3 lenses. I gave him back the lens hood, the filter and the M adapter. This way, fewer items can get mixed up.

The lens test will happen next weekend if all lenses make it to this coming week.
 
I have a feeling that there will be a wealth of 50mm/1.4 and 50mm/1.5 lenses in the test. I miss a Nikon S body though. Does anyone have a user's Nikon S for the test?
 
I received another J-3 today. William's J-3 is similar to my LTM J-3 in Contax mount. It is made by the early ZOMZ, with the 3 elements logo. Interestingly, mine has purple colored coating in the front whereas William's J-3 has the purple color only in the back but not the front.

edit: there actually is also some purple when looking from the back of the lens.

I have recorded: lens + lens hood + front cover + lens pouch.

Update on the lenses and cameras for the test:

Fred has kindly volunteered to mail me a Nikon S along with seven lenses.
Once I receive all lenses, I will post here an inventory list along with a "family photo" of all lenses.

I now have with me two J-3 lenses as loaners.

The list of promised loaner lenses has become impressive.
It is quite an enjoyful view of 1.4 and 1.5 lenses [I can envision their beauty already]!

If we have 22 lenses, I may simply use one 24 exposure roll for each setting or maybe use two 36 exposure rolls for three settings.

Depending on when alllenses arrive here, I can start the test on a weekend or maybe do flare testing in the evening. My wife has volunteered to be my testing model.

For the post-processing, I was wondering if somebody could offer a temporary ftp location to share scans between you and me ?

The method we used last time was difficult (writing a script to download reduced images from my smugmug account), and I didn't get to post-process at max. resolution.

I may be missing one or two, but I count six out of 24 as "not a Sonnar" :).

BTW - the Summilux I sent is a very early type 1 - should make an interesting comparison with the later Summilux.

The test is covering 1.4 and 1.5 lenses of all designs, so a Sonnar is not mandatory.

I received a Nokton 50/1.5 from Michael, and I have a receipt for a parcel at Federal Express and one at USPS. I will get the parcels tomorrow.
 
I just got back from Federal Express with John's parcel, followed by a trip to the post office where I picked up Fred's two parcels. The post office told me that additional parcels will be distributed [to my home] today.
 
update: The post just delivered a parcel from Mark.
I will wait until all lenses arrive here.
 
I now have these beauties with me, and I am still expecting more lenses to arrive.

Please let me know if there is anyone who has mailed me lenses and I have not acknowledged it. I need to know when I can start the testing as soon as possible.

Roland wanted to mail a lens or two. Brian mentioned he had lenses. I am not sure what to do here.

Secondly, someone suggested to me the following for the lens test:

23 lenses near, mid, and far = 69 shots

Wide open, optimum, close = 207 shots (2 x 69)

Corner crop, center crop = 414 images (2 x 207)


I was not going to take ten rolls of film. Is this what you want for the test or is there a simpler way to get the job done?
