How many film cameras does one need?

I have around 15 now myself and I still want a half frame, some of the older assorted ones, a few Polaroids, a few more Leica models, at least one or two proper folding cameras and at least one good 6x9/6x12 camera. I am pretty sure I will not stop buying them until I am dead or my mind goes.

"As many as you can get. As few as you can get away with."

I already had way too many cameras when I picked up the cool little Robot II. That set me off on a binge of Robot acquisition ... a Robot Royal 24 and two Robot Star 50s are winging their way to me now.

This Magpie Syndrome thing with camera equipment is worse than any drug affliction I've ever had. It must stop! :-\
Oh well, at least I occasionally use every one of them.

A few, Leica M3 DS, Leica M6 TTL, Canon F-1n, Canon NEW F-1, Canon TX, Nikon FM2N, Hasselblad 500CM, so only seven. Seemed like more than that.

Best,
-Tim

2 x Leica M2s, Leica R7, Leica IIIf (not mine really), Zeiss Super Ikonta C, Hasselblad 500CM

Proudly using all of them :)

Regards,

Boris

When I see a lonely little camera at the thrift store I'm always reminded of the scene from The Jerk where Steve Martin takes stock, "All I need is this ashtray...that's all I need.......and this paddle game.....this ashtray and this paddle game....and that's ALL I need...."

Gotta' love Steve Martin!

At one time I had quite a few. Almost none expensive. Some soviet stuff, some non-collectable SLRs, a couple of cheap medium format cameras, things friends donated, etc. Gradually I got some better (but still not crazily expensive) kit and sold off most of it. If I used it and liked the results, it stayed.

I tend to say I have six 1 x M3, 1 x Hexar AF, 1 x Contax Aria, 1 x Rollei AFM, a Rolleiflex and a Super Ikonta. So, basically 1 rangefinder, 2 x compacts, 1 TLR, 1 SLR, and a folder.

But there are a few broken things that I have vague intentions to fix, or gifts from friends that I don't use tucked away that I can't or won't sell.

Well, you started by saying to yourself that one camera and one lens is all you really need.

We all know what happened next.

. . . . . today the correct answer is four. (for me)

If i buy/sell one tomorrow then is could be five/three.

Today four works since I usually go out with two 35mm or two MF cameras.

I would like a MF folder and . . . . .

Time and patience, ya thats it, time and patience.

I have a lot of old film cameras and I keep telling myself that some day I may use one of them again. Yeah, that's it. Some job.... Some project.

How many? Who knows. I never counted them.

Don't know how many. Thing is- the most amazing equipment is so cheap now compared to what it was. I'll stumble across great equipment that seems almost free. I've really slowed down with that...
