I have too many 50mm lenses. Do you too?

My Summitar, which has a very similar barrel design as the Summicron, doesn't save as much space as a collapsible Elmar but the space it does save comes in handy for me. I typically carry M3 and the Summitar in a small leather satchel (ok, a man-purse) that isn't much larger than the camera. The camera wouldn't fit if the lens was fully extended.

If your Zeiss Jena is a genuine Zeiss produced LTM lens, it is very valuable. Most such lenses are "fakes".
 
The 50mm is not my favorite focal lenght,
but yes i also have a few...
- Summilux 1961
- Summicron 1959
- Summicron DR 1956
- Summar 1935
- Canon f/1.8 (typ 4)

I have more 35mm 🙄
 
I just got a new one today! A lovely 1940 Elmar f3.5 to go on my IIIa. Very pleased with its size and handling so far, already have a film to develop tomorrow to see what it produces. That'll be my sixth 50mm but I'd like to get a Summar, Summarit, and a Xenon as well as a Summilux, oh and a Planar to complete the set.
 
The timing is too perfect for me not to enter in.
M mount- 50/2 rigid cron, 50/1.4 lux asph, 50 noctilux
F mount- 50/1.4 AF-D, 58/1.2 noct (I consider it normal enough) and 50 Zeiss ZF makro-planar. Just bought the Zeiss and iot's a killer. Almost sold the noct, almost sold the noctilux, can't do it! best...Peter

Hmmmm well, after working hard at getting almost all the "fast" 50`s I`ve ever wanted I really don`t have one that I`ll part with quite yet......

I do have a *spare* "wartime" Elmar 50mm f3.5, but it`s really a reserve in case I ever sell my "K" shutter IIIC

I just acquired today an "uncoated" 1936 Leitz Xenon and haven`t tried it yet, so that one would be maybe the one I`d consider letting go of, (though I have looked for one for a while - it`s always best to get me to trade or sell something before I get attached to it, once I`ve done that you can forget it)

I think I`m going to try it out really well and put it though it`s tests, it has pretty decent glass for being 70+ years old - IF I END UP LIKING IT AS MUCH AS MY SUMMARIT, THEN I DON`T THINK IT`S GOING ANYWHERE, BUT STAYING WITH ALL THE OTHERS

But if I was considering a possible trade, it would be for a late Canon f1.2 50mm (post 1963 Canon Co. Inc. lens) in an "even up" trade - I`d also consider a Canon f1.5 35mm or a Canon f1.5 85mm in the same offer - I am quite the Canon RF lens "nut" and I work with more of them then any of my other vintage lenses......

Tom,

Is the Xenon as costly these days as a 35mm/1.5 or 85mm/1.5? I thought that the last two lenses cost about 30%-50% more than a Xenon. Maybe I am wrong. Is your Xenon in Nickel?

OK, this thread is making me laugh as I have been really questioning my bizarre attraction to the 50 lenses and wondering why I keep on buying more and more of them. This has felt a little like "Lens Acquisition Syndrome Therapy", and do I feel better 🙂

So, here is my fun little list. I also have 50's for the Contax N1 & CY as well as for my Nikon RF and SLRs, but this is the Leica forum.

There are way too many 50mm choices for M. I can't even remember how many 50mm I have used. One of the most interesting lens for my M3 is K50/2. Extremely high resolution from the center to the edge.
