Selling my CV 35/1.2 Nokton last year to finance another project. Well I have basically recovered from that project's huge cash drain and decided today to place another order with CameraQuest for a replacement CV 35/1.2 Nokton, especially since the price is so reasonable ($819) compared to what I paid a year and a half ago ($899). Ahhhh but there is a reason for the $819 price. My first 35/1.2 included the vented lens shade, not so the current price. It's an extra $74 if you want the lens shade. Not really a big deal, and still a heck of a great deal, but it is something others should be aware of. Why don't I need the shade, because this is being bought as an available darkness lens, not a daylight lens, just as it was before. Why would anyone buy a lens of that size for an M camera for daylight use (just curious in that regard)? I have a fine 35/2 Summicron 3rd gen for daylight use (in fact I have but two lenses for my M6, the 35/2 and a 50/2 Summicron... well and a Jupiter 12 35/2.8... although I also have a Leica 0 [null) series camera as a backup... can one call it that?). Anything else gets handled by the Leica R5.

Be that as it may, I'll be excited as heck to get a CV 35/1.2 back.

It's such a tempting lens...if I ever won the lottery it would be an M2 and this lens for me. If I can ever save up the money to get that combo I'll be calling Cameraquest to send me one. 😉

Stephanie,

No need to win the lottery, just sell a few of those nice photos you take. The CV 35/1.2 could be yours in short order. You have the talent, now just market it.

Best regards from Idaho,

Don

I too was tempted by the 1.2 aperture and bought this lens. After owning it for a while, though, the size became a huge issue for me and I just never seemed to grab it when I went to shoot. Eventually I realized that I hardly ever used it. After a while I sold it and got a 50 lux, which felt tiny in comparison and went everywhere.

I went through a similar issue with the size but later realized how that actually helped me to hold steadier in very low light. I also prefer the perspective of the 35mm lens indoors to the 50 and sold my 50 Lux not long after I sold the 35 Nokton. A 35 Lux just isn't in the cards (credit card or wallet 😀 ) for me at this time.

I've just gone down this same road...I have the 35/1.2 and am impressed by it but also bought a 50/1.4 asph from a RFFer...this lens has absolutely blown me away:

The 50 isn't exactly a flyweight unless compared to the big Voigt...a 35 'lux would be nice, but then I'd need a divorce lawyer...

Craig,

Actually, I'm surprised you didn't need a divorce lawyer for the 50 Lux asph acquisition. 😛

Heh...yeah...right. 😛 I have faith in my abilities as a photographer, but not quite that much faith. 😉

Funny that you should mention this: I have played truant this afternoon just to try my 'new' Nokton 1.2/35 on my 'old' M2 - visiting l'abbaye de Saint-Denis just north of Paris.

There was a lot of faith there (the French are still undecided on whether beheading their king in 1793 was a good idea or not) and precious little photographic talent on my behalf, but I promise I'll post here whatever pictures come out ok.

And... yes, it is a very nice heavy setup. I can see myself parting with the titanium M6, but not the M2.

Don, as one who has had to sell his Summilux Aspherical 35mm (1st gen), I can certainly understand your dire straits. Fortunately for you, the price of used Voigtländers has not followed the same curve as that of limited-run Leicas...

Now the 'problem' is that I'll have no excuse to account for lousy pictures.
Hey, next time I'll take the digital Ixus [Elph in America]...

Alec,

Nonsense my good man! We can always manufacture excellent excuses for our poor photographic results. Getting other people to buy into all of them, however, may be a problem. 😀

Best regards,

Don
