I need feedback from everyone. (Classifieds)

The feedback section is not complete IMO, I sold a camera to VRgard and since he didn't offer any items for sale, he doesn't have his ID listed under the profile section...I can't leave any feedback for him!
same thing with an item I sold to gabrielma, ican't leave feedback for him because he is not listed !
How does the computer know who I sold the item to anyway? At the present time ANYBODY can go to the profile section and leave any feedback they want for the items I sold!

"How about this:

If the two parties can't come to an agreement they could talk to a staff member who could be the mediator between the two. If they then still can't work it out and the mediator really feels that one party is not cooperative and is cheating the other that staff member himself could give the bad feedback or in severe cases even ban the member (and maybe even give out the cheaters real name to the forum so he can't cheat anymore people. This, of course, only in the case of fraud).

I wouldn't let members give bad feedback on their own since this could possibly get quite excessive and could result in open disputes on the forum.

just my 2 cents"

Jamie, I would LOVE this solution ! That is exactely what I am suggesting to e-B-y
since years ago, but no hope... The only way, with them, is to use Square Trade mediators,
which cost is, seem to me, $ 15. I succesfully used them three times, but it is a slow and
a quite disappointing experience. And, I think that such a tiring service can't be cost free.

I agree, too, BUT, often, there are customs fees involved. And, who would pay for BOTH shippings ? Of course, always the buyer, when, often, the misrepresentations are due to a poor (cheatty) seller's description ! Ciao, Luigi

Luigi,

I am shocked that 3 RFF members are trying to scam you. Are they doing charge backs through their credit card companies? How are they trying to scam you?

You guys can consider using a free, 3rd party feedback system. On many of the computer part forums I frequent, buyers & sellers leave feedback on a site call heatware.com It's basically a feedback system like eBay, but it's for leaving feedback based on trades on multiple different forums. In the hardware trading world, it's made things worlds easier and facilitates trades. That way if someone is a scammer on one site, he can't go to the next with a clean slate, etc. It's not a perfect system, not by far, but it's basically the same thing you would have here, except it would cost no money or time to implement.

FWIW to other RFF members i will send all details of my transaction to Joe as he kindly PM'd me and if it's decided it's worth posting negative public feedback than so be it. However this won't really change the facts of my deal. it's all based entirely on trust one assumes that because we write so much about our gear in the forums we know what we are talking about when we come to sell something and offer the appropriate description details to aid the sale. My view and the sellers view were some distance apart although i'm sure if this item was sold in a shop it would have been priced much lower to reflect it's condition. My point is not the so much what condition it arrived in but how it was described before i decided to make the purchase.

I am sure

I am sure

that only a very small % of those pieces are from RFF members.

If I want to sell an RF related piece of equipment on ebay, and think it may be of interest to members here, do I just not tell them, or drop subtle hints 😛

A great RFF'er/seller whom I've bought from before is auctioning a camera on ebay now and his set price here is just above my budget. I'm very glad he posted the link as it gives me a chance to obtain it at a reasonable price. And if I miss this one, fine, I still want the opportunity to go bid on stuff wherever it is.

One reason is that there are maybe 10,000 pieces of RF gear for sale on ebay at any one time and if everyone put a pointer here to their ebay auctions that's all this place would be.

I hope you get a refund or an adjustment, Simon.
Did you pay more than $1,000 for the camera?

R.J.

$600 base price then $88 shipping and 3% paypal charge then $20 refunded for shipping
a 15 day wait instead of 4 days plus $115 UK Vat charge and a camera that needs parts replaced and adjustment. So add the the repair cost and two way shipping to get this done and it's a sizable chunk of cash laid down. Happy not.

I need everyone’s help on deciding how to handle classifieds gone wrong...

is it our problem to solve?

the current feedback thread was workable when we were a smaller community.

we now have more people who come here mainly to sell.
we used to be known as a place for getting good gear at a very reasonable cost and feel secure in receiving that gear in good shape.
maybe not so anymore.

if it were me...and i say this as a member, not a moderator, go back to the old way of having a classified section of threads that mainly policed itself, at no cost for a posting of any kind. drop the new classified and if a $25. member objects offer him a bigger mailbox or an extra photo upload limit. i doubt many would object.

i think if there are problems now it is because we have created a marketplace and that changes member's expectations.
before we had a community that bought & sold good gear to each other.
i think there is a difference.

I still want to hear Frank's opinion. If I recall correctly he didn't think the new classifieds were a good idea.

Amen to that!!!

R. J. , No, not scams ! And, I was... the BUYER ! 🙂 Nothing terrible, and I don't like to
start a public argument. Say that, in the future, I will think more deeply before to send
a payment of Eur 1.000 (about $ 1,280), and that I will pretend a mode exaustive description, and, possibly, a money-back warranty.

The feedback option in the current classifieds seem under-utilised. Maybe most folk don't know about it.

if you click on a seller's profile IN THE AD SECTION you can add comments, and a symbol will appear next to their name-ONLY in the ad section. It works great, I think it just needs to be publicised.

...I've been trying to point this out. As well, refer to this thread, where I point out that it really isn't even working like I assumed it would. For example, note the latter part of kiu's comment (italics are mine):

In fact, it seems that aad has something with the statement, "...most people don't know about it", especially when viewed in light of RJ's response:

How do you leave feedback for a buyer in that section?

Perhaps Jorge needs to take a look at whether this feature is configured correctly, and then we all need to take it for a spin. If working, it's likely a feedback feature that will take care of itself. That said, there are several common-sense procedures everyone should take when entering into an online sale. Several comments here have dealt with these in a very complete way.

Cheers,

Hey Frank

Hey Frank

I actually agree with you on this!!

FWIW i don't believe it's the forums responsability when sales go wrong and i'm sure 99% of the time everything goes according to plan in a transaction - it has for me in the last 20 years. But it's good to feel that there is a place to discuss things should such a transaction go wrong.
Trust is a very important part of a community especially one so virtual as an internet one.
Maybe its just me but i think it's hard sometimes to discuss something when you don't always know their real name.

Although, I prefered the old system, the forum has changed and the "problem" came as a result in the old listings. I am not sure that going back will solve this sort of situation.
