I need feedback from everyone. (Classifieds)

i think if there are problems now it is because we have created a marketplace and that changes member's expectations.
before we had a community that bought & sold good gear to each other.
i think there is a difference.

Amen to that!!!

One big fat ditto!

Keep the classifieds as is and forget about a feedback system. We're not ebay. If you want to know if someone is trustworthy ask them to refer you to other forum members they've dealt with either though sales or other personal encounters.
Does the ebay feedback system really protect anyone? Of course not. So why are we trying to reproduce it here.

David,
Whilst I agree that any "feedback" should be limited to the buyer and seller, I think leaving the comments open while the sale is going on is useful. At the moment it is not abused and most of the third party comments are generally good for the seller either in the form of a recommendation for them or the gear they are selling. If that changes, then the normal rules of posting and moderartion would apply.

Kim

Kim,

I think this is a reasonable approach, and you are right: most of the comments are entertaining or informative. It is probably better to take the hands-off approach and see where it will lead !

With regards to the new, or old system of ads, I strongly support the new system and requiring a minimal payment to use it. I think supporting this site is crucial and if paying for ads helps that's a good thing. The membership or ad fee is still a bargain compared to say eBay. I've been a member here for a while, but have taken a new interest in the site now partly because the classified section has been so improved (as has the entire site for that matter in terms of software).

I do like the comments that appear under the ads. That most reminds me of the old system.

Jorge,

Are the classified photos at the bottom of the main page randomized now? I would think its better to put new listing at the bottom like it used to be. Right now even things that are already sold appear at the bottom of the main page.

I don't know what it's like in the US, but at least here in Germany eBay policy disallows advertising of eBay auctions, at least from Usenet newsgroups.

Yes eBay "disallows" anything that cuts into their profit margins in the slightest. And that is yet another reason to avoid eBay and trade here -- their "rules" always cut in their favor.

I don't understand why sold items come up in the random pictures? It gets one all excited, then several clicks later, one sees that it has been sold long ago. What's up with that feature?

David,

I was interested in your Praktina that you have listed here:
http://www.rangefinderforum.com/photopost-classifieds/showproduct.php?product=359&cat=500

However, I saw this listing on eBay that appears to be for the same camera

Are you still offering this camera for sale on RFF?

we now have more people who come here mainly to sell.
we used to be known as a place for getting good gear at a very reasonable cost and feel secure in receiving that gear in good shape.
maybe not so anymore.

R.J.:

Thanks for your interest.

Yes, it is still available here if you are interested. eBay auctions can be cancelled for any reason at the sellers discretion up to 12 hours before they close and I will generally give RFF members priority. These are eBay "rules" (which I adhere to). Of course after this time the item is commited to eBay and the ad here is deleted.

The price posted here is $85.00, or you may bid on eBay of course and perhaps get a bargain, although from the number of watchers I can say that interest there is quite high.

Please make me an offer via PM.

Oh, and R.J., I might add that that I only move a post from here to eBay if there is virtually no interest after several days of being posted here -- which was the case with the Praktina. Thanks again for your interest in the Praktina.

May be Jorge is trying to make a point about all the good stuff being sold on the classified section??
RJ are you trying to Hi-Jack this thread? 😀 🙂
May be a private message is more appropriate!

Not at all, Kiu. 😀 I'd like to see RFF members be able to link to their auctions in their RFF signatures.

I don't need a bigger mail box or extra photo upload limit. If Jorge would eliminate rule # 5, I would be happy with that option.

Rule No. 5 - No Self-Promotion
5) You will not post any messages anywhere on this site that are primarily for the promotion or advertising of any website, forums, email address, business, MLM, activity, or other entities that you have an affiliation with (ie. no self-promotion). No exception, additionally Self-Promotion links will no longer be allowed in your signature.

I've thought about Kim Coxon's idea of eliminating all buy/sell ads. I think it's a great idea provided that members can link to their auctions in their signatures.

This is intended for commercial establishments that try to advertise on RFF without going through the proper process. Individual members can pretty much ignore this one.
