I'm going to need a 50mm LTM lens soon. I can't spend a lot, so the Russian lenses are what I have to choose from. I want to see your photos from various Russian 50s, preferably the newest ones you have, so I can get a feel for each. Keep in mind that I've used two 50mm lenses on LTM rangefinders: a Jupiter-3 and a Jupiter-8. I'm most interested in Industar-22 and Jupiter-8 samples since I'm pretty sure the J-8 I had at the time wasn't the best.
Show 'em off, then!

Congratulations on your successful nine month project.
If your resources permit a canon 50 might suit IMHO.

A second thought - i've an ebonized fake elmar f3.5 (industar?). It out performs a genuine example of mine. You may have it gratis if interested - it would need to be properly lubricated.

Photos, people, photos.
I know all about the lenses...but it's the photos that really show what a lens can do.
And yeah...my budget is about $75, tops. So Canon is pretty much out.

The Flickr search turned up some impressive images. The I-22 appears to equal or better my old 50mm Elmar.

it's just hide and seek
My Gallery shows photos made with an Industar 26M lens on Fed-2 body (except the portrait "Kurs 6-var", that's myself shot with an evil SLR camera, Revueflex SD-1 and a 100mm lens or so).

I definitely like the OOF areas in the J-8 shots. Speed isn't really a factor here as much as I have steady hands. Hrm.

Steph, FP John offered you a 3.5 50 FSU which is a very sharp lens - take it, girl. You can always get something like a J8 ( faster ) later.

I love my Jupiter 8 on my Bessa R. No pictures at the moment as my neg scanner is being cantankerous (I think it is the cold). I'll see what I can rustle up.

Just yesterday I mounted an Industar 50, black, rigid and ugly on Leica M body.(got this lens with a busted Zorki 4k for no money, I just needed the leather case), never ment to use this lens, but I had to try..and:
i don't know...you tell me. The film is Efke KB 100, processed fast, scanned cheap(Canoscan 8600F)

I use J-8 as my main lens and have a couple
of others(I-22 rigid and collapsible; I-61 L/D, I-26) that I use less often.
I've got a bit lazy in how I post so can only link to a few that I know which lens I used for certain. These three are with a J-8 ( late 1950s, silver, tabbed version):

I'll have a look at my stuff and see if I can find some examples of the other FSU 50mm lenses I use.

You'd be hard pressed to go wrong with any of these, IMHO. They all seem to be great lenses and will do what you ask of them. We sometimes get fooled by admiring an excellent photo, many such examples have been presented here, and thinking it was the lens. Or the camera. Or the film. It was the photoghrapher. I've seen startlingly beautiful photos shot with a pinhole camera.
So pick one you like, make sure it has no flaws, and you WILL be happy.

I don't shoot a lot of 50mm...but I have these from an I26M that I should have kept.
If you're interested, I have an I-50 that came with my new Zorki-6. I'd be happy to send it as a baby shower gift, since it's not likely to get used. (I have a J8 for the rare 50mm shot.)

I have an aluminum rigid Industar 50 (not very good) and a collapsible Industar 50 (excellent). As we know FSU lenses can be very idiosyncratic. Don't put down the Canoscan 8600F; I was very much surprised at the results from 35mm negatives as I actually bought it to use with 120 film.
I chose it over an HP simply because I had to take it home on the NYC subway and it was three pounds lighter. I didn't used to consider things like that but now since I am a senior citizen they suddenly become significant. Having seen the results I was more than pleased and I find your scans sharp and contrasty.
