lens flare :D

Since I was heading to Maine for a photography workshop with Sylvia Plachy, I thought it would be a good occasion to get a hood for my 35mm summicron from B&H, while I was in the states. On my way out of Toronto though, I realized it was Sukkot -- so B&H would be closed. One day we were out shooting, and I mentioned this. Sylvia Plachy said, "A hood?..Oh you're worried about flare. But flare is good!"

Anyway, I later wimped out. I had my chance to make my "king of bokeh:)" the "queen of flare", but I have since succumbed and bought a hood.

I have a Japanese roommate and she said the term bokeh can also be applied to older people whose memories/minds have become patchy.

Manzai, which we in the West call straight man - funny man, has two roles. The first is called tsukkomi and the latter, who is usually a simpleton or clumsy, is called the boke. it's pretty formalized, so I'm surprised that she wouldn't mention that although I dont think traditional manzai is that popular anymore. but it is a very common tv trope over there and in fact around the world.

fwiw Ive never heard the crack of the fan followed up by "boh-kuh" but Ive heard some Westerners call it that.
