Imacon scanners. Anyone have one?

Language like this doesn't really mean anything. Mixing baseball and naval warfare metaphors doesn't help, either. 😛 Got any specs, or, better, some examples?

jplomley really has a point: productivity figures he gave are really far better than what my Imacon 646 can achieve. If 120 scans of 35mm negs in one hour are possible at full resolution, the next questions are about quality and price.

jplomley, where are you located?

Just to back up what jp is saying: I've researched these scanners and compared files (online) produced by them to drum scans. In many instances you are very hard pressed to say which is better. In fact, drum scanning being much more difficult, it takes a very skilled operator to best these high end flatbeds, and then only by a hair. If I were thinking of dropping the kind of money we're talking into a scanner I wouldn't consider anything other than these flatbeds. Who needs the hassle of a drum scanner?

I'm located in Montreal, Canada. I did all of the scanner comparisons with Ted Harris in NH who was the previous editor of View Camera Magazine. Ted had a Cezanne Elite and the iQ3 on loan from Kodak for testing. I've also had Imacon and iQ3 scans performed by JaincoTech and Tango drum scans by West Coast Imaging.
