is the gf1...

Use an optical finder for my 12mm, 17mm, and 21mm lenses. I don't understand your comment?

Yes there is that solution, but I don't find it ideal, far from it.

That does not remove the fact that camera makers make cameras without viewfinder, and that's my main criticism that still make me hesitant in buying a GF-1 (or the Oly) that otherwise looks good. Even the EVF makes a "wart", removing a bit of the compactness.

I used an external optical finder on the CLE when I had a 50 mounted and use external optical finders for the 15 and 90 on my RD-1s. It's workable but not ideal. I have a Ricoh GX100 and find the external EFV not a whole lot better than the LCD in bright sunlight. I have to take my glasses off to make it work because glare leaks in.

I'd have an EP-2 by now if there was someone in this town who had one in stock where I could go and test the EVF and see if it works for me. The VF in the G1 is the best EVF I've ever seen but it also comes up short occasionally. Because of a physical problem I must have an eyelevel VF.
