IME, it's an excellent lens on any camera that can take an m39 mount (either natively, or using an adapter).
If you shoot film, but don't want to spend a fortune on Leica equipment, how about trying it on a Bessa R?
OTOH, if you shoot digital, the J-8 plays very nicely with the Sony A7 series.
