just curious...

how much gear do you normally carry?
i'm not talking about special assignments or for holidays, but just on a saturday afternoon when you plan to take a few shots.

Today, 2 bodies, 4 lenses. Often, 1 body, 3 lenses. Sometimes a digicam shoved in a pocket as well.

would it be one camera and 2 lenses or 2 cameras and 4 lenses?
i'm talking just bodies and lenses here.

Depends entirely on what I think I might need. I only constrain myself if I think it might be too heavy to carry easily. Otherwise, it is strictly based on whatever I think will best suit the occasion. I never 'just go out' and happen to have a camera along, I always go out for a specific purpose.

If it's with others, generally 1+1 unless they are also photographers (which rarely happens.)

If I just want to have a camera handy, 1+1.

If it's a specific photo junket, 1+2 or 1+3.

Depends on what I plan to shoot. I don't have a standard kit, I just pull the lenses and bodies I need for the work I intend to do.

I do carry a Domke 803 satchel with my Leica and 50mm and 35mm lenses at all times, no matter where I go, in case something comes up or gets discovered that I want to photograph, but when I am PLANNING to go shoot, I pick and choose the gear I will need for that subject that I plan to photograph.

It all depends. Sometims it is a kit with a Kiev 4AM, 50mm f/1.8, 50mm f/2, 85mm, 35mm, and 135mm, and Welta 6x6 folder. Other times, a Yashica FX 103 and 4 lenses, 18-28mm, 28-70mm, 75-150mm, and the T* 50mm f/1.4, and the Zeiss 6x9 folder. It can just as easily be an XA, Fujica kit, Fujica SLR and one lens. Just whatever strikes me as right for what I am out for. Maybe I need to be more organized. :D

Usually the m6 with the 35/1.2 or the Nikon FE with the 35/1.4 depending on the mood and the film left over in each camera. If it's bright and I have a mini project in mind, the bronica SQ with 80/2.8. That's for pleasure when i'm not on assignment; on assignment, I take 2 bodies, 4-5 lens. Travel... dear god, I take everything. The m6 with lens, both nikon film cameras with 3 lenses, the bronica with lens and 2 digital bodies with 4 lenses, it's a heavy bag for sure, but i never go out with all that (except a couple months ago when i took it all for a day long music festival).

one mamiya 6 w/75mm around my neck & a medium size bag with another mamiya 6 w/150mm, superwide swc/m & maybe leica m6 w/35mm f2...and maybe a small bag w/p67 & 165mm left in the car for closer roadside stops.

sometimes i leave that ton o' gear at home and take a rolleiflex 6002 w/spare batteries and a small shoulder bag.

i remember a time when (almost) all i carried was an m4-2 w/50mm f2...hmm.

one camera and one lens....and maybe an extra roll of film in my pocket......I keep it simple....I should change up my "usual" combo more often though

1 and 1 most often. And that's even with a tiny A&A bag that fits two bodies and three lenses that only comes out for projects or holidays. I saw somewhere (here or the other place) that one of us usually takes a 35 to get it all in when he's holidaying, but around home there's less that needs to be got in so his usual walk around is a 50. I liked that.

Easy for me: When I want to keep it truly simple, I just grab the Contax Tvs and a roll or two of film. Done. (Sometimes, the M2/35 subs for the Tvs.)

When I'm feeling a tad more ambitious, I grab the old F803, which always holds my entire Main Axe kit (two Hexar RFs, three lenses, one or two flash units, a few assorted tchotchkes, and anywhere from five to twenty rolls of film). Not much big thinking involved, save for how much/what kind of film.

One of my two Leicas + one lens + one spare roll of film. That's what I carry every day. I have a messenger back for all the usual stuff and an A&A padding insert for it (to protect the camera a little from bumps).

I like that idea, "Vacation for a weeks" :)
