Konica Auto S2 multicoated or single coated?

Is the Konica Auto S2 multi-coated, or is it single-coated?

Better than most I'd say, apart from, but even not excluding some top line lenses like Canon L series. All Hexanon lenses are very sharp.

I love the Auto S2 lens. Mine breaking was accompanied by a real ****y feeling =/

I only ever got to run one roll of film through it but I was really impressed by the results.

I figured that most mf slr lenses would perform more or less the same given the same focal length and maximum aperture aside from maybe the Canon L's and Carl Zeiss line.

I much prefer this lens over my Canon 50 1.4, but I've never handled modern SLR because I prefer RF's but Leica and Zeiss glass is too expensive for me.

as far I'm concerned the hexanon lenses of this era or any other for that matter offer all you could ever want in a standard length RF lens, you can buy an S2 for virtually nothing compared to any Leica, which leaves you lots of money to spend on film🙂 and your pictures will look as good as they are, ie if you take crap pictures on a Leica or an S2 they are still crap, and if you take a great picture on a Leica or an S2 it will be great. simple as that.

the only dig I have against the S2 is that it's bigger than it really needs to be.

as far as weak build quality goes, well that's a design choice and not something they meant to do and screwed up. you paid for the lens and got a camera behind it. one with a pretty decent viewfinder, actually.

underestimate these optics at your own peril. I'd be thrilled to get this same lens in LTM.

I think it is single coated (although im not certain). I also think the S1.6 and S3 are single coated. Does it actually matter now?

Compared to MC slr and m mount lenses i have here. The S2 lens has the same appearance to the coating as the Yashinon DX lens in my electro GX.

Konica introduced something called Color-Dynamic coating at about the time of the S2 - said to be double layer coating on some elements (not like the slightly later Pentax SMC - 7-layer on all surfaces or the Fuji ebc - 11-layer on all surfaces) - so my guess is some surfaces may be double-layer coated, as thought best. In any case flare is not bad.
