Leica 50mm Dual Range Summicron

Here is a link to a portrait taken with the 50mm Dual Range Summicron.

The goggles are only used when using the close-up feature of the lens.

There is a lot of advice that this lens will not work on the M8, so they are not experiencing the price run-up of some of the other M lenses on e-bay...

Old post but this is THE list from Leica about lenses for the M9.

Is it because of the close focusing function? Is there a chance the lens could hit the shutter in this mode?
Has anybody tried using this lens in an M8, 8.2 9?

Important: • Cannot be used:

Hologon 15mm f/8,
Summicron 50mm f/2 with close focusing.
Elmar 90mm f/4 with collapsible tube (production period 1954-1968)

Notes: • Exposure metering is not possible with:

Super-Angulon-M 21mm f/4
Super-Angulon-M 21mm f/3.4
Elmarit-M 28mm f/2.8 with serial nos. Earlier than 2 314 921.

AFAIK, you can either use it in the close-focus range with eyes attached only on the M8, M8.2 and M9 OR have the close-focus cam ground off and then use it on the M8, M8.2 and M9 from 1m to inifnity but loose the close-focus abilities.

I replaced my rigid with a DR as I finally couldn't take the infinity lock on the rigid any more. The DR needs to be fixed though as the focus ring is very loose. Very much looking forward to using this lens. :)

Roland, very nice Shots. I like the Sharpness and the DOF of the DR. A wonderful lense.

There's one for sale with matching "goggles" at a reasonable price in town.
Looking at these photos makes me want to buy it.

Thanks for the great pics everyone. :)

I was never impressed with my DR and couldn't compare it to others glowing reports..
After CLA by Malcolm Taylor, who told me how far out of wack it was.. it seems to be more the ticket now.

Glad to see some new life in this thread. Just got my SummicronDR a few weeks ago ... mounted it on my M6, blowing through a test roll of Ektar right now. The DR samples I'm seeing here at RFF are just gorgeous.

Hi Peter,

I'm not sure if you've found your answer, but here's some info on the DR being used on an M9...

Bumping up a cool old thread.

Just two photos I did to fill a roll on Sunday, but they did remind me why I like my DR so much ....

Roland.

Roland,

The dog pictures are truly lovely.

A couple of shots from me, all from the DR 50 -- it's easily my favourite of the lenses I have, and suits the M3 well. The second of the three (some Swedish Christmas decorations) was taken with the close-up goggles.

There's a few more here on my Flickr page, link: (photos tagged with "leitz50f2summicrondr").

The picture on the right... talk about bokeh! Looks like an impressionist painting.

Bump.

This was taken with a DR on Neopan 1600 pushed with Rodinal :)

That would be my lens and possibly my phone. Is that a Torch? :)

How did you do the EXIF on the phone? That's cool. I could use that. Added to Geotagging with the Torch's camera, I would know where, when, and how I made a photo. Cool.
