Leica FF Mirrorless w/ a fixed 28mm lens rumor

I think there are many of us who hope there is a 40mm follow on model.

I always said to myself if Ricoh had a GR40, to with the GR28, I would buy both; the problem with Leica - that is not such so easy financially.

The other problem with 40mm ; people might stop buying Leica Ms - the CL syndrome.

Yes but with the greater DOF of an apsc multiplier. I think you know what I mean. Think of it this way... This new camera becomes an un cropped version of the x or t cameras. The lenses on each offering similar DOF characteristics for a given aperture the only difference being the FOV. There is not a shortage of fixed cameras with deep depth of field On a large sensor(GR, Nikon A, X100, Leica X and T , the sigma cameras if they can count here etc...) There is a void however of fixed cameras could provide a greatly varied DOF. The Sony RX1 is it for now and it's only f2/35mm .

Again... My agenda is for more subject isolation and greater control of DOF not another 28mm equiv where most of use shoot for great DOF.

Oh I get it... I wish it had a 50mm f/2 lens. However, not everything is made to cater to you or I (unfortunately). I'm not sure how popular a fixed 50mm would be. Leica probably knows better what people may want. Maybe a 50mm is its bread and butter in the M world.
 
add another vote for a 40mm as the only possible way I would consider a Leica fixed lens digital investment- they would get off the herd mentality and be/think different and offer a unique offering….

I wished it had been a 40 tooo.. Probably too expensive for me anyway 🙁. Reminds a bit like my Panasonic lx100 from a looks perspective (mirrorless rumor site photo). I wonder if they will implement the Ricoh crop settings and do a 35 and 50. W/ 24mp, unless u really need to print big, even 50 crop should yield enough mp for an 11x14 I would think.

Hope I c a Panasonic version 😀

Using the Ricoh GR has taught me .... composing on a 3" screen is much nicer than at eye level for 28mm and wider.
Seeing the scene and it's components. Finding the eye point desired. Levelinging the horizon.... all are much more efficiently achieved on a digital "Ground Glass".

With 50mm or longer I want to isolate the subject I'm focussed on capturing.
With the wides it's a scene I'm usually after. "GG" is the way to go.

Have to disagree, It really beats me how anyone can use a camera without a finder. A screen is ok for static subjects indoor if you close the curtains, but utter useless outdoor and for people photography.

Im crossing fingers for an OVF. No OVF, no practical value as a camera. But perhaps a replacement for glossyphones (Iphones)?
 
I hope Leica sells a milion of them, but if they're counting on me it's only gonna be 999,999. The only thing Leica has that motivates me to pay their prices is that good old rangefinder. Take that out of the picture and I'd be looking at a more reasonably priced brand.

I don't think that's why. I think Leica wants to be known as the " Think Different" camera brand. They have done the math and figured out they can sell enough at their price to make a modest profit and that works for them as far as maintaining brand awareness.

Perhaps they chose 28mm because the GR Digital has been so popular.
Or perhaps so that they are differentiated from the Sony RX1.

... Anyway, it looks very nice, like an X with a built in EVF essentially. Leica, make a 40 to 50 mm model next. Tempt me!

Fellow X (and X Vario) user and I'm right with you on 50mm (or equiv on APS-C). My XV is almost always at 50mm, and more often than not it is a 50mm lens that adorns my M-E and M Monochrom.

I love the X, but wish it was a little longer focal length.
