Leica M-D: Pure for the sake of . . . purity?

Interesting comparison, Vince... The skin tone change fits with my observation, and note the greens being slightly brighter "with", a bit dull "without". There is also a cooler look to the black fabric...

I have some pics of the same car (I assume, based on the number on it) from when it was in the Petersen museum. I agree it's a beauty. Nice shots of it.

Thank you!

It would be the same car. #16 was Stirling Moss's car from the 1954-1955 GP seasons. (I believe #22 was Herrmann, #20 was Kling, and #7 was Fangio.) Seeing it in the flesh was a boyhood fantasy come to life. :)

I'm going to shoot some more with the UV/IR filter and try to do a few more with/without comparisons.

I was just looking through this entire forum thread and I realized that I've owned the M-D for exactly one year. Still in love with this camera, and I'm hoping that it continues for a good long time. You know it's a long-term commitment when you peel the clear plastic cover off the baseplate :)

The 2017 incarnation of the camera -- the 5cm f/1.4 Nikkor-S, 1.25x eyepiece, a newly-installed mini soft release, the original strap (which I've now grown to like). Oh yes and of course the UV/IR filter.

That MD looks to be a real camera...just like film ..w/o the film...
Funny though...that people leave the plastic on the base plate..thats the 1st thing that comes off for me..right out of the box..
I wonder though..if they will made a new MD soon... in the M10 specs ...

I still have the plastic on the baseplate of my Monochrom 246. Don't know why, just do. It's ironic as it's the one that usually lives in a half-case, whereas the M-D is always 'naked'.

I can't imagine that they'd be introducing a new M-D In the immediate future - the camera has only been out a little more than a year, so I can't see why they'd do it now. Maybe in a couple of years? I don't even attempt to predict what Leica will do. It would be interesting if they did at some point though!

Same here ... for some reason, I haven't taken the plastic off the M-D base, but it's never in a case. It just feels so right in my hand... :) My M4-2 is in an A&A half-case ... gives me a better grip on it, it seems a bit slim for my hands.

Whether Leica comes out with another generation of M-D is an interesting question. At some point, I hope, to keep the line running and current. But I'm completely delighted with my existing one and don't really want any other M. I've had some odd thought occasionally of buying a second body, I like it so much, but that seems a bit excessive; I haven't seriously considered it.

I have the Leica grip on mine, so the baseplate is back in the box. I'm not fond of that original strap; after brief use it went into the box too. The pad is so slippery, it kept sliding off my shoulder.
Godfrey, I hear that you are seriously considering a second M-D while you can still get one! :)

No, not seriously. I think about it from time to time, but I'm pretty happy with the cameras I have now and really don't need another. I still have a few that I need to sell, as a matter of fact.

I use a Street Strap on the M. It seems just right for the size and weight of the camera.

Maybe the M60 would be a better choice :)

I don't know if this sounds goofy, but after a stressful few weeks of very early mornings and long days getting photos and videos done for clients, at the end of the day I like nothing better than to go into the backyard and take useless photos of the garden with my M-D.

I can honestly say that I don't think that Nikkor-S is ever going to come off this camera!

Beautiful outfit! I have a Tamarkin leather strap on my M262 that's similar to this strap, with the exception that it does not include a shoulder pad.

Right now I am utilizing an M9 as my second/backup body. I'm hoping this time next year for the M262 to be my second body, with maybe one of these MD's as my primary.

You won't be sorry if you add an M-D to your camera bag. Using it for the last year, I don't miss the rear screen one bit -- actually when I use my 246 I now forget that I have the screen.

The one thing about the outfit above (with the Nikkor lens) is that I had to change the lens hood to a generic screw-in type. That Nippon-Kogaku clip-on hood kept falling off when I'd accidentally brush against something and I was afraid of either damaging it or losing it. So practicality had to take precedence over authenticity :)

My thoughts have been pointed in another direction the past few weeks so I haven't been shooting very much. However, I pulled out the M-D for a few snaps the other day and continue to marvel at how delightful a camera it is.

I don't have an M-D, or any M bodies, but so enjoy this thread for its images and discussion. Wonderful stuff, thanks for sharing it all.

re Vince's pic of the brooks saddle, my wife rides her townie fitted with the B66 - she claims its comfort brought her back to regular riding. all hail brooks!
