Must get tiresome to always be in the spotlight.
I can't stand those celebrity leeches, always stalking celebrities at every turn, be it around the corner or the flush. Good thing I don't purchase any of the papparazzi-feeding magazines.

Forget about unobtrusive street photography.

I thought the "Real Seal" was that thing you find on packages of cheese:

Seriously, he seems to be a nice guy and he's willing to share knowledge and informed opinions, so other than that, who cares?

(I gather that there's a "Seal" who's some kind of non-photography celebrity, but pfft, we're supposed to be above that kind of thing on RFF, aren't we?)

Hi jlw,

The "informed opinions" with respect to the M8 are questionable but the entertainment value is present, for sure.

Cheers,

Sean

The captions to those pics even mention the M8 that Seal's carrying, though they call it an "M8 Digital SLR made by Leica".

Congratulations on the new baby, BTW.

The singer Seal did indeed get a loaner M8 from Leica. If he ever happens to post on the forum, people can ask him about it.

Cheers,

Sean

FWIW, I found out in a non-diclosed round about way that he is indeed, the man he says he is. If not, the above would make the imposter a very scary impersonator.

He is human like all of us, but he is a Leica user, so lets be chill and enjoy life like we always do.

I have an agent in NYC for editorial work that used to bother me to do that kind of stuff awhile back because of where I live. Let's just say they stopped years ago..:).

Charlie,

Send me the photograph. If you don't want it displayed I will just tell the members you are the man and lay it to rest. As the owner of this place what I say should be good for the members and maybe they will drop the subject.

Regardless, this is ono popular thread.

Well,

I for one welcome Seal, Heidi as well if she were to join ;)
OK, I missed a whole section here, I didn't know we had a singer in our midst. It's all come together now. I felt like I was Costello (metaphorically speaking) for a while.

Like a Wonka gobstopper, this thread has provided different flavors of entertainment throughout its long life. Currently, I'm most amused by those who imagine that someone would expend such effort on a pitch-perfect spoof to be perpetrated on the readership of the Rangefinder Forum. Some of the doubts now being expressed seem to border on the pathological. As much as we enjoy it, this forum simply isn't important enough to be the target of such an elaborate ruse.

As much as I wish this wasn't true.....

Actually, not knowing for sure is pretty fun.

I am a believer by the way.

You must be kidding, spoofs like this have become a core part of the Internet. It's not "pitch perfect" as you suggest but it was well researched and based on what I've been reading, it really hit its mark.

It does seem like a lot of work for a spoof. Not that I haven't been thouroughly enjoying it. I haven't learned a lot about the M8 but I sure have learned a lot about people. Actually, the little that Charlie did say was interesting. His comments on the Leica LX-2 (whatever they call it) were spot on. Whether he's the real Seal or not, I'd be happy to talk about Leica's with him.

Oh, by the way, the concert in Vilnius will be over any minute.

Shall we dance?

..arf,arf,...ARF!

Why would anyone work so hard to spoof our little group, even to get on an airplane to continue the spoof?

Then again, why are some folk so very sceptical?

Sean, I'm very aware that "on the Internet, no one knows you're a dog," but I think you flatter all of us all by supposing someone would go to all this trouble for our benefit, to propagate the astonishing idea that . . . these cameras have begun to trickle out to Leica's "friends and family," who like them. Where's the fun in that?

To help those of us who haven't been playing with an M8 review model, would you mind identifying the telling wrong detail(s) that fuel your skepticism? I assume you have more than the fact that he had trouble opening DNG files in whatever program.

The way to refute Internet hoaxes is to connect the dots showing that they are false. I'm about as skeptical as they come and I would really welcome it if you could "show your work." So, no doubt, would others.
