Leica to announce a new M-mount M6 film camera in Oct 2022

I have to admit, that walking around town today, my M-A with 35 Summilux did not even leave the bag, the X100V did everything; it is the best camera Leica never made.

I really dont understand leica in theese things. Is she producing cameras and lenses for photographers or for collectors. I buy cameras to photograph with them, not to look them in a shelf and admire how they look. If i was going to ever buy a leica it would be one that is modern (m6 and after) and reasonably priced so i could use it all the time without babying it. They formula used for her cameras is the same for many many years so apparently they want to keep prices so high including used ones. 15 years ago they costed less than now and they take the same photographs as then. I wonder sometimes for example about the m11. As a consumer if i buy something i want that to be in its time. I wouldnt buy the m9 now if i had to buy one it would be the real stuff, the m11. But with those prices one cant save and buy cause with 8300euro you can buy a car. I may see the whole idea wrong but for me photography is fun and with so expensive stuff its not so much of it. If i ever win the jackpot ill buy one with a small 50mm to use all the time and throw away not caring about it much, like i do with every camera i have till it doesnt work anymore or till i get bored of it. Till then ill just look at the models and wonder who really uses them. And by uses i mean daily on the streets on journeys etc.

Yes - a wonderful digital camera. Fuji’s best of the X-100 series, IMHO.

I think they did a nice job. Mine is from 1985 and does suffer from some localized bubbling of the zinc top plate and a bit on the back door. Glad they are using brass for both top and bottom plates.

Good article on why this occurred and the expensive 6-die process used for brass. Not sure if they are still using this process however.

If I was interested in film photography; had the choice between a brand new Leica M6 and a 20+ year old one, and have money in the bank, I'd try to buy this one. But that's just me. Cheers, OtL

Yes. The latest info I have is that it will be limited to 500 units, available in matt black paint (no mention of a silver chrome option), and priced $500 - $1,000 (in the US market) less than the MP. My source encouraged me to "keep an eye on the MP" - whatever that means.

It's possible that Leica is "testing the marketplace" with this camera and - depending on the response - may actually produce more than the initial 500 units.

I understand the last group of M6TTL's had brass bottom and top plates.

I am still glad I sold my M6TTL 4 years ago due to my uncertainty of future successful repair parts availability for the light meter circuit, this after mine was fixed with factory replacement components already once before by DAG.

Must be new electronic design in this version.

Happy with my Leica M2 and Barnack cameras, though, and my digital M cameras.

I doubt Leica will have many M6 classic old production parts left to make another run.

Leica M ans are lucky these were made.

The new expensive M6 Classic will likely keep the original M6 Classic prices even stronger, not decreased,

It 's odd Wall Street is not already offering Leica M futures and Leica M IRAs.

I think the 'cost savings' is from the redesign of the rangefinder unit. New+Improved.

The brass top is probably CNC rather than pressed.

Does not seem to be limited edition right? But it's only a few hundred cheaper in the USA. Oh well.

Seems to be listed with all of the other permanent models on its website.
