Leica X2 Revisited

I would got to a store and test one before you did this... the X2 may not be your thing if you expect it to feel anything like the M8. The EVF is showing you exactly what is front of you. You may be able to use the Olympus VF-2 with the X2.

I'm pretty sure they knew better than to do this. $2000 is already a lot for this camera...so instead they made the EVF and charged crazy money for it.

Yeh I will try do jsrockit. Holding in a store is not always the same as using it however. We are often very quick to either love something or dismiss it in a store without even really trying it. I am in no hurry to buy, but am headed to the States in October/November this year, so was hoping to have one for that trip. The M8 is just not a camera you can use at night with a decent aperture.

Hi, Jubb...if you make it anywhere near Atlanta, just give me a shout!:D

You can say that again. The X2 will be great for that. My point to trying it in a store was about the feel of the camera not the ability of the camera. After using a heavy M, the X feels like a super light camera (which some associate with cheap)... which turns some people off. I consider it a PRO.

to gauge whether I will order an X2 next year, I have fitted a Voigtländer Color Skopar 35mm f/2.5 on the M9 and will shoot with that combination alone for a month or so.

so far, I'm enjoying how much smaller and lighter the M9 feels with this lens. haven't taken too many photos with it yet, but what I have is encouraging.

The extra handgrip adds weight. I really prefer the feel of the camera with it attached. Much easier to hold and shoot it with one hand too.

I can't get into handgrips... I just feel like you turn a tiny camera into a regular size camera. However, to each his own... good to have choices that work for different types.

I reckon the X2 will not brass as well as the original....;)

SDXC cards are larger capacity than SDHC. I'm standardized on 16G SDHC cards now. For me, there's no real need to go larger.

Thanks, I have a hard time filling my 16G SDHC cards shooting DNG uncompressed on my M9P so SDHC it is!

I ordered from Dale Photo in Florida... I don't like to pay sales tax.

Great! I'll give them a call to see if they can give me a timeframe. I do prefer the form factor of the X1 more; the raised hot shoe does give it a less compact/stealth look but the quicker AF is much more important.

I don't think the camera will be "pocketable" once an EVF is used.

Sure it is until you put it on the camera.:D Seriously, I cannot put the X1 in my pocket with the old external VF that I am using but I place it on the camera when I know I am going to be shooting it, then remove it when I am not, such as walking around or driving. Just a small adjustment in my actions.:)

Thanks for the unboxing video...nice to see the silver color body! I wish Steve Huff and others would quit calling the raised hot shoe a "wart"...doesn't look bad at all compared to a Nikon DSLR, IMO.:p...or anything with a prism box.

The case show below is similar to the original case for my M3.

This X series is a superb design:
