Which lens hood is suitable with a Summar and what is a typical cost figure here?
Thanks.

You need a SOOMP !! This is a special, rectangular hood that has an opening running across the top quarter so there is no blockage of the rangefinder and viewfinder.
There are SOOMP's made in Wetzlar, New York, and fake SOOMP's from Japan. I would imagine that there must be some sort of ring adapter to take you to a series hood, but I don't know what ring it would be.
Hope this helps.

Oh Boy....I just checked eBay and a SOOMP just came on.
Check #140133274178. opening bid - $49, and that's with the box !!

Good Luck,
Steve

The picture is so bad you might get that for $50 to $70. The box looks bashed, so it won't be that valuable to a box fetishest.

Getting one for under $50 is very challenging.

Oh, if you don't need as effective a hood, the adjustable FIKUS hood works fine at the 35mm setting. I've used it at the 50mm setting, but there are FIKUS hoods with a Summar setting mark that's at the 35mm line.

But, you will not get nearly as much flare protection.

Thanks Steve and John for the tip. I am not a collector [I think], and any lens hood that fits would do for me.

When I searched ebay, I found one made in Japan. It lists for about $250. I paid $100 for my Summar, so I am not going to pay much for the hood. I will use that lens and not parade it.

You should be able to find a series VI hood and ring (slip-on) for a few bucks. I paid Jimmy Koh $70 for my Leitz hood. Not the cheapest but cheaper than most.

Yeah, that hood from Japan is a collector's item in itself. Wacky price!!
