Let's see your Leica M

Sara. Why not an M2 or M4-2, M4-p. A small hand held incident meter and you're on your way... plus you'll save a few pounds.

Agreed, the M2 probably offers the best value available in the M world and is in many ways superior to the M6, M4-P etc.

Unless you need a motordrive, you get the simplest set of framelines available in an M (other than the super high mag. of the M3, which only shows 50mm at the widest end), excellent build quality, brass gears and enough money left over to buy a decent lens.

The amount of times one sees some dude with an M6 or even an MP with just enough cash left over to buy a Jupiter-8 is pretty painful. Best of luck with whatever you decide or manage to do.

Sara, these guys are right. Go for an M2. I've owned an M4, M6, CL and now an M8 and an M2. This current combination is my favorite. If I couldn't afford the M8 (actually, I can't, but that didn't stop me), I'd be more than happy with just my M2.

robklurfield, leicamshooter, Benjamin,

Thanks, yes someone just messaged me about it. Looks good so far, sounds reasonable as well, that I at least use the M2 before going onto something more complicated :D
Will check it out!

Sara, you could do worse than look at Aperture as I see you are London based, they have a user M2 at the moment at £290 they are good guys I have bought from, no other connection.

film M's are certainly prettier, but I think some digital M's look better than others. Here's my M8, black paint ltd ed "Panda" (though, really, it's an anti-panda) in my wife's hands on a cold day on Cape Cod...

shot by my M2, which is better looking than the M8.

good for you! go for it :)

I think that the M9 looks far better, just by some minor changes to the top plate.

What I find disturbing is actual the size of the M8/9 over the film M's. (I even find that the M7 looks 'big' to my eyes!)

How about some Ms photographed themselves with Leicas ?

This was taken on Neopan 1600 with a 75/1.4:

In a fashion show, my M2 always beats my M8. They are not pretty compared to classic M's, but they do the job and they could certainly look worse than they do. My biggest gripe is not appearance, but size. The darned things are bigger and heavier than I like. In any case, I pine for a black MP. Someday.

Well, my M8 is still prettier and smaller than any of the Wünderplastik dSLRs or a film scanner. I'm OK with it.
