Let's see your Leica M

Having slogged through multiple pages on this thread I was struck by the surprising number of 40mm lens, from various sources.
Surprising to me, anyway.


Also, gratifying since 40mm and its equivalents have been a favorite of mine for decades but thought myself an odd duck because of it.
20mm 1.7 on m4/3
27mm on APC,
80mm on 6x7
On occasion even Nikon's excellent 35mm 1.8 DX on the D800E, cropped to 40mm to eliminate the dodgy edges.

Totally OT, but if you're a 40mm connisseur, you owe it to yourself to try the Pentax 43/f1.9 Limited ;)
 
Never used it but know it has a sterling reputation.

and, appropriately for this thread, I understand "some" were made in M mount.
 
Yep there was a native, rangefinder-coupled LTM version of the 43mm Limited, labelled as the SMC Pentax-L 43/f1.9 Special (from that wonderful era when many of the Japanese manufacturers were releasing special editions in LTM).

It has a special place in my very short wishlist :)
 
I once compared the 43/1.9 with the Summicron-C 40/2. I could not detect any observable differences, but I did not make any prints. Both lenses are superb lenses.
 
I have this lens in both Pentax K-mount and Leica thread mount, a favorite for its pleasant rendering. It has 7 elements in 6 groups arranged similarly to Pentax 50mm lenses; half-stops to f/16 with 9 diaphragm blades. Surprisingly longer than the 40mm M-Rokkor, but of course its optics were originally designed for clearing an SLR mirror, glass well-recessed at the rear. Thus it performs very well on digital RF cameras. It is 47.8mm long at infinity with the M bayonet-mount adapter in place. Features a focus tab. Worth noting is modest amount of barrel distortion.
 
I have been recently rediscovering my Pentax lenses, including a Pentax-M 50/1.4 in M mount. I just love the images from this lens.
