Yep, me too ... I shake like a Aussie opener these days 😉

LOL ... that was quite a days cricket yesterday Stewart.

Quite sad the way half the crowd buggered off towards the end of the day. Cricket in this country seems to have gone beyond sport ... it appears that a lot of the crowd aren't there to watch a game, they're there to see their heroes give the opposition a bloody nose! There's a theory in Oz that to be captain of the Australian team is only one step down in importance from our PM.

It's embarrasing IMO.

I live 300 yards from Co Durhams international Test ground, have seen quite a few internationals, seen some great teams, Australia, India, England etc, was at the last ashes and hve been watching this series and staying up to do so, I was a little surprised when the crowd left, but if history has taught the Pome anything, the Aussies are always full of fight and hard to beat.

Like you say, the Ausssies are never beaten until the final whistle ... this doesn't look promising though! 😛

Currently the players are becoming bigger than the game. Bradman became a legend in Oz because of the way he played cricket ... not because he spent $250000.00 on an engagement ring for his super model girl friend or drove a Ferrari.

Sport is just sport and people need to remember that.

Keith my local crickrt ground is an international ground, my county have been the 1st class champions twice in three years, as a member I have seen some cricketing greats and a real gent and caharcater I met a few years ago was shane warne and was lucky to have a pint with him afterwards, he was great fun, cocky in a good way, signed autographs etc, reminded me of Ian Botham in a lot of ways.............warne is no angle but I think hes a big miss to the team. I met Boon inthe late 1980's and again in the early 1990's, what a legend and had great banter, unfortunately a lot of starts these days are only concerned with agents and sponsorship deals

I don't mind Warnie at all and he'll go on to be a folk lore hero in this country and deservedly so. Like Bradman he backs his reputation with results.

Sadly missed in Oz cricket by me .... I'd love to have a beer with him you lucky sod! 😀

It's the same with the footy over here, all got a bit out of hand.

There is the start of a grass-roots backlash starting up over here LINK

I love the pictures. I grew up in Heaton Moor, Stockport and they remind me of watching Heaton Mersey CC play on Green Lane.

Michael get a tripod if you're beginning to be a bit wobbly...

There are hundreds of quirky little grounds up in the Pennines, I've been intending doing a project on them for a few years now, but the muse keeps deserting me each time I start.

this is just down the road from the first one, the pitch is on a 10-15 degree slope

As a schoolboy I could get in to Yorkshire's Park Avenue ground for free after four o'clock

What all the time 🙂
I was not far away from Heaton Moor myself ,Peter.
East Didsbury just before the river.
All my family are Stockport ,Hazel Grove way.

That's just a wonderful shot Stewart!

Michael I was born in Hazel Grove, lived in Reddish, then Heaton Moor and finally Davenport for a year before I moved to Dublin. A few years ago I was back in the area to watch my football team play. Could hardly understand what people were saying to me... 😱
